Usyk has wins over Gassiev, Breidis, Huck, Hunter, and Glowoski in their home countries. Does anyone know of other boxers with similar or better road warrior records?

Brian Mitchell won a world title in his native South Africa and then defended it 13 times all overseas and in 7 different countries without defeat (one draw avenged in rematch).

Maidana fought a hell of a lot of top names on the road.

Lennox Lewis probably should be mentioned.

some guys fought a lot outside there place of birth but were in reality the established a sides there...does that count as being a road warrior? something like canelo fighting as a big attraction in texas?

Agreed because in that case, you'd have to include Pacquiao.

Johnriel Casimero fought nine of his 12 world championship bouts outside of his home country. Glen Johnson also competed in more than a dozen bouts outside of him home countries of the USA and Jamaica, as did Ronald Wright.

What about Ken Buchanan - you don't see many British flags against his resume?

This is what I was looking for. Perhaps I used the wrong term. I was looking for boxers who went to their opponent's home country or backyard and successful fought for or defended their title there.

..Both Klitshkos deserve being mentioned, Golovkin, Kovalev etc..

The Casimero one is a good call. 3 fight win title streak in opponent's home country and Wright had a 4 win title streak as well.

I believe Eusebio Pedroza has the record for most defenses in opponents yard

Not so sure about Klitschko brothers , with a few exceptions they were always the home fighter , even if they weren’t fighting at home (Kiev) literally speaking. Probably Povetkin and Herbie Hide are the only ones I would consider as fights away from home in a promotional and crowd favourite sense .

"The Road Warrior" Glen Johnson had some nice road wins and efforts (unfair decisions).

Pac would have to be considered the KING of road warriors because most of his world title fights were outside of Philippines and involved rivals in EIGHT different weight classes!!

Kinda tired of all the hype around this Usyk guy, feels just like that, hype or nationalistic or ethnic cocksucking. But yes beating all those guys in their home countries is a great accomplishment. Really good.

Then there's this thread -- "Usyk has 6 title wins on the road. Is that the most of all-time?!?!?!" Manny Pacquiao has like 16 world title wins outside of his home country, 6 isn't even close.

How naive does a person have to be to think Usyk anywhere in the conversation of greatest road warriors? That'd be like if someone went on the NBA forums and asked "Kevin Love has won 1 championship. Is that the most of all-time?!?!?!"

lol at being a road warrior for a fight when your a massive a side fav, kinda conflicts with what makes it impressive. to me road warrior isnt simply fighting away from home, but in the backyard of an opponent who gets more support in that location.

pretty f@cking obvious manny pac beating david diaz in vegas or canelo besting liam smith in the us is a totally different thing from usyk beating glowacki in poland or spence beating brook in sheffield etc

btw not 1 of usyks title fights has been in ukraine and all his title acquiring wins across 3 fights have been in opponents home country where they are favoured, and in 6 title fights hes fought in 5 countries and won all of them (op does ask about resume quality)

so in proportion hes about as road warrior champ as it gets, that part of him isnt overhype at all

No kidding there are a lot of hype threads. That happens when a fighter's on a roll. Obviously I was referring to his claim that we're all sucking Usyk off because he's Ukranian.

there are some ppl who just cant stand when other ppl are excited about a fighter. you can bet hes already firmly planted himself against usyk for the long run just because some people are a bit over excited . pretty retarded to do that when a guy has legit been taking things the hard way and winning. obviously right now there will be lots of usyk talk with him just becoming undisputed, yet again in his opponents backyard where there supported more (true road warrior stuff, not that huge a side garbage)

Best example so far. Went to Venezuela 2x, Japan 2x, Puerto Rico, USA 2x, Puerto Rico, Papua New Guinea, and South Korea to fight in their backyards for a total of 9 times all in title fights.

Pedroza and Mitchell are top calls when it comes strictly to title reigns. I never thought Mitchell was the most talented guy (not even the most talented South African), but he was remarkably consistent. Always in great shape and mentally prepared, no matter where/when/against whom.

What about the most well travelled fighters in general? As in the boxers that fought in the most countries? Might make that thread separately so as not to derail this one.
