Since the long lay off in 2014,Mickey Fought some weak opponents Elio Rojas,Dejan Zlaticanin,Sergey Lipinets, and Easter.Since that point he been fighting fighters who he only knows he can beat. The welterweight division is the only real test for him,Spence & Crawford are only fighters i see defeating him.

I think Lomachenko 135, Jorge Linares 135, Josh Taylor 140 could give him some problems..

Those 3 WOULD give Mikey problems, but Garcia would still be favored against all of them. Against bigger fighters like Spence and Crawford, Mikey would be a significant underdog.
The happy medium is Manny Pacquiao. Even though he is a legit welter at 147, Pac has lost a step at age 39 and Garcia-Pac would be an even money/50-50 matchup. Pacman also offers Mikey Garcia the BIGGEST payday because Pac is THE biggest drawing card in the sport now that Floyd has retired..

What is it that makes Pac a legit welter? It's not unreasonable to assume Mikey weighs more on fight night at 135 than Pac does at 147. Wouldn't mind seeing that fight either way.

Pac is a legit WW because he has fought between 143 and 147 pounds in
ALL of his last 15 bouts, dating back to the Cotto bout in 2009!!
That's as legit as you can get!!

There's room for debate on that "favored over Lomachenko" bit.

I've been saying that for years when fans insist "Manny's small. He's not a real welterweight. He could easily make 140. Even 135."
Yeah, he could make the weight. But they would have to carry him into and out of the ring.
When a guy has been fighting in one weight division for 9 years, you can figure that's his natural weight. Manny hasn't been weighing in with weights in his trunks all these years.

I think that Lomachenko would be favored by a hair in the sportsbooks.
He's been more heavily hyped (especially by ESPN shills) than Garcia and that influences people.
It doesn't mean that Lomachenko wins, but I'd make him about an 8-5 choice.

Interesting topic. I totally agree with TC and ESJ beating Garcia. Loma and Linares at 135 maybe...

How does that have anything to do with Pac being a legit welterweight? Since Manny has weighed in at 143-147 for
his last 15 bouts consecutively then he is a bonafide welter, regardless of what anyone else weighs..
Beating Pac would give Mikey a FIFTH world title, just like beating Spence would. Most would agree that Mikey stands a better chance of beating a 39-year-old Pacman than he does a prime 28-year-old Spence. Plus Garcia would make more money fighting Pac, who is one of the biggest draws in the sport.
Anyway you cut it, for Garcia to fight Pac in the near future is a much wiser decision than facing Spence, both financially and legacy-wise.

Garcia wants to be the best, not just make the most money. That's what fighters are missing. They don't want to challenge themselves. Can't way until he gives Spence his toughest fight and then you guys start talking about how Spence is overrated.

If Mikey fights Pac first and beats him then he could fight Spence in a WW title unification bout. That is better for BOTH his legacy and his wallet. Pac is 39 and will soon retire. Spence is 28 and will be around much longer than Pac,
so why cant Garcia fight Pac first then Spence?
Nothing wrong with fights that boost your fistic legacy AND your finances.

You never know what the fighter see or don't see/ think. He could see the angles /speed/footwork of Pacquiao as being more of a threat to his style than Spence's size. Just like I heard a few fighters say that Thurman is a harder fight for them than Spence. Like I think Jacobs is a harder fight for Charlo than GGG. You have to remember, Garcia spars with bigger guys in the gym all of the time. Plus it's better to lose to Spence than to today's Pacquiao.
