Yesterday here in Korea, a judge had a 4-round fight scored 40-40.
Have you ever seen that before?
I never had.
Thatβs all

40-40.
A monument to indecision.

I've never seen that before but good for him. If a round is even it's even.

What do you mean?
These are professional judges. They're not paid to sit on the fence. They're paid to make a decision.
I can see in a 12 round bout scoring 1 or maybe 2 rounds even.
But 4 out of 4?
This guy needs to learn how to split hairs.

I wonder, how this judges would have scored DeLeon-Nelson fight, if they were at it.

Have you seen the fight? I'd be intrigued to know who fought and try to watch it on YouTube. So I can judge for myself.
I've witnessed one or two absolute stinkers in my time, where both guys lack of effort resulted in me scoring 10-10 rounds more often than I'd like to, because if both men aren't trying and not throwing punches, then it seems silly to flip a coin and penalise one fellow and not the other.
I'm probably wrong this, because my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I recall watching Johnny Nelson 's bout against Carlos De Leon and believing that both men were an absolute disgrace and it would have been unfair to award anybody the victory in that bout.

Bullshit ... punchoutsb is exactly right ... and I'll take it a step further ...
If one fighter does not clearly dominate a round it's an even round ...
... AND ...
If a fight "could go either way" ... it's a draw ... (period) ...
The idea that judges are obligat'ed to score a round or a fight in favor of one fighter over another is pure unadulterated bullshit ...
... AND ...
There is no reason on earth that a judge should feel obligat'ed to award a close round or a close fight to one fighter over another ...
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a draw ... in fact ... a draw is the ONLY fair, just and reasonable decision in a close fight ... (exclamation point) ... ...
PS: My stupid computer keeps replacing obligat'ed with obliged ... (hence the apostrophe) ...

Agree with the above. Absurd to say that a need to award rounds overrides a professional fighters need to actually win rounds.
Edit: we need more even rounds.

seems a lot of ppl, especially in us boxing, think its somehow unmanly to give even rounds
i often score an even round or two, there are legitimately rounds where you have to really fabricate something arbitrary to say one fighter deserved it more, in those cases a think an even round is the best reflection of what happened and the fairest
esp early on you often get rounds where the guys are basically staring at each the whole time and hardly throwing anything

That's an excellent way to put it ... that "fighters need to actually win rounds" ...

This is also good ...
I think some people NEED a winner (or a loser) ... 'cause they think if their guy wins it somehow reflects well on them ... that they are also winners ...
... and if their guy loses ... well ... then they can revel in their own outrage ... they got robbed ...
Either way ... it's an emotional thing ... they're driven more by their own emotions and insecurities rather than any real appreciation of the art of boxing ...

Plus ... one of boxing's biggest problems is the idea that fights are fixed ...
... and when a close fight is awarded to one fighter over the other ... half the crowd immediately cries "Fix!" ...
It's bad for boxing ...

Sometimes i think that scoring in boxing sucks. A fighter that won 3 minutes in 5 rounds and landed 4x more in every of these 5 rounds than his opponent and 1 minute in 7 rounds and his opponent landed only 1.5x more in these rounds losts 113-115 despite the fact that he was better during 22 out of 36 minutes and despite the fact he outlanded his opponent for example 290-248

There is nothing wrong with calling an even round even. In fact, it should happen more often.
