Joseph Parker's team to launch appeal to WBC and WBO following Dillian Whyte defeat

Joseph Parker's promoters Duco Events are planning to show evidence to organizations of a headbutt in the second round of the New Zealander's loss to Dillian Whyte which apparently cost the former world heavyweight champion a draw. Read here

Following a pulsating twelve rounds of action, in which Whyte scored a bonafide knockdown in the ninth and Parker almost ended the fight in the final round, a clear headbutt was counted by referee Ian John Lewis in the second session.

Parker had an argument for winning that round after a slow start by Whyte, which has now led to David Higgins potentially lobbying for a rematch.

The FINAL WBN Scorecard:
Image

"It’s clear that the clash of heads in the second round had a significant impact on the fight," said Duco in a statement.

"In terms of the scorecards and Joseph’s performance in the middle rounds (the headbutt made a big difference).

"In light of what is clear evidence of a significant error by the officials, there is a legitimate question as to whether the result should stand.

"That’s a question Duco will be asking the sanctioning bodies on Joseph’s behalf."

ALTERNATIVE Scorecard with Parker winning the second round:

Judging by the scorecards, Parker fully warrants raising the question, although Whyte has seemingly already moved on from the triumph.

Whether the WBC or WBO, both of whom had regional titles on the line, will move to order a return is unclear at this point in time as Whyte aims to move forward.

I remember, I scored the 1st for Parker, but I don't remember, how I scored the 4th and the 5th. Anyway I had a feeling of Whyte being clear better through the fight after the 2nd. Parker did something significant only in the last couple of rounds. So, Whyte made an overall much better impression.

I agree, Whyte's going forward and making his jab loom so easy to land would have helped him.

I think its fair enough to ask the question, the headbutt clearly effected the entire fight. but i dont like results being altered after the fight and although its harsh think the fight should probly stand. i do however think that it probable warrants a rematch (not that i think he will be given it).

When Whyte loses.. That is the only time he will rematch anyone. How he wins, regardless, it's a win on his record. Right now, Whyte just wants to fight for a world title.. He's brushed off Chisora aswell.

If/When Whyte eventually loses, he's likely win a bout and then rematch Chisora as it would probably be more lucrative than Parker rematch first. Depends too on Chisora, he has to keep winning too. I think Whyte should fight Chisora next. The first bout is a big question mark. He needs to set it straight.

Bit embarassing if you ask me - At that level you should be able to get over things like that

Dust yourself off, bite down on the gumshield and give as good as you're getting

He was getting roughed up and he couldlnt hack it for the most part, don't start appealing like fools

I'm 100% certain that the clash of heads affected the fight: Parker looked a different fighter after it happened and didn't look like he was all there to me. However... Shit happens in boxing and I don't think the result should overturned. And if they want a rematch, well... If anybody deserved a rematch with Whyte it's Chisora who did much better against Dillian than Parker did, and that fight would sell a lot better too. Nobody is getting a rematch. They can try it but it's a waste of time.

Agree with this too and am a bit surprised to hear this from Parker .

I dare say it's mostly down to his management team , but it probably won't do them any favours getting another fight with Hearn .

I'm fuckin sick of hearing this head butt pish! Was an accidental clash of heads. Aye the ref made a whores drawers of it but it was an accident and a mistake. I had Whyte winning the fight by a few points as well. These things happen. Whining about getting the result changed etc is embarrassing man. Parker took the defeat on the chin and was very sporting afterwards.

If the fight had been a minute longer though Parker would've probably got Whyte outta there. Wouldn't mind seeing a rematch next....

This is what i was thinking,if it was not classed as a knockdown they would of scored it a draw

He only gets a rematch if Whyte loses to AJ again, which he will.
Parker was fast and accurate and ducking Whytes shots like he was in slo mo before the head clash.
It definitely affected him, but that's boxing. He was OK about it, this crap comes from his team as they see their cash cow fall into the low paying meat grinder.

Let the result stand, but use this to support the implementation of VARs for knockdown rulings.

It's daft that we get to see more of apparent knockdowns than judges do. I also think it's a glaring mistake to seat judges together rather than somewhat equidistantly. It's common to hear commentators calling punches on their blindside — our side — that haven't landed.

The judges don't sit together. They're each on a different side of the ring.

Thing is with this Parker’s promoters need to mention the constant pushing down on Parker and holding the ropes. Usual Whyte stuff that Parker hadn’t prepared for. I would like to see a rematch and if I did happen I’m sure Parker would come in lighter and box. The Parker that fought AJ would have beaten Whyte imo but Parker does need to man up and get nasty in the ring

Some did have him winning against Whyte. Despite the 10-8 in round 2.

The question is how much money did the first fight made?

I don't know but I would assume it didn't do enough for Whytes team to risk a rematch. The first fight clearly showed that Parker can beat Whyte on his night.

I had Whyte winning and changing the outcome after the fight would be just silly.

Isn't it so that the referee makes the call on KD and not the judges. Judges need to score it by the referees call?

The referee will always make the knockdown call. Not judges.
