All professional athletes aren't clean. Getting caught is occurring more due to the sports politics, than just failing the tests.

i find it extremely unlikely anyone in the top
twenty in any weight class has been clean
throughout his career. although i could
imagine exceptions at heavy, simply because
weight is not the issue.

Doesn't really matter to me.
Unless a fight is cancelled due to their PED's I frankly don't give a f*ck what they're on. I assume everybody is cycling on and off of something most of the time.
Not just fighters either. Football players, Baseball players, Basketball players, Track stars...and everything in between.
Bowlers and maybe Golfers probably don't bother with PED's, but that's about it

Beta-blockers are helpful for steadying your aim under elite pressure in sedate sports. And PEDs have been used in golf for improving drives.
I think Gene Tunney was clean.

I don't think any of the top guys are clean, but I do think Kovalev and Mikey seem clean.

I'd want drugs to do that much sweeping!

All the top boxers are on the gear.
As long as taking HGH can't be proven by testing pretty much all athletes will take it...

..my assumption being that quite a few used or have been using PEDs that are not necessarily forbidden at this point moving in a grey area so to speak...legally speaking it's ok but still having an unfair advantage over those who can't afford it for whatever reason..

I'm sort of with Gil on this, I just don't think about it. I mean I'm not naive I know it is endemic everywhere in sport, but I just treat everyone as innocent until they fail a test, then depending on the circumstances of that failure I'll decide whether or not my perception of that fighter is affected.
I'm not saying for example that Povetkin has or has never taken PEDs but the way he was stopped from facing Wilder was such an obvious politically motivated stitch-up, driven by Haymon in collusion with his poodle Sulaiman, that I would never let that influence my perception of him.
And I certainly don't jump to conclusions based on whether a guy has a six-pack and big muscles.

I believe that most fighters have consumed banned performance enhancing substances at some point of their careers, inadvertently or otherwise, but it’s probably only the top guys that possess the necessary resources to escape detection.
There are far too many pundits, trainers and managers that have made similar claims in the past for me to ignore this sad reality of our beloved sport.
Those fighter that haven’t breached the WADA code are probably operating on the very limit to what is deemed as being acceptable.
Hardly any fighters are being tested during training camps, regardless of the “clean” or “fair” boxing programs introduced by the WBC, WBA & VADA. And it’s extremely rare for any fighter to be tested out-of-competition, which is when PED’s are most beneficial to consume.
That being said, I will never accuse any individual fighter of having consumed PED’s unless their behaviour is so suspicious that it warrants it or if they have actually tested positive for consuming banned substances.

According to Mia St John, none of the top boxers are clean.

Mia would almost be a prime example that PED's aren't as effective as people make 'em out to be. I mean she was always basically nothing more than a Model in Boxing Gloves who was matched pretty carefully most of the time because it's easy to market a Female athlete that looks like that.
She was never all that talented.

ya but mia st john couldve been even far worse w/o peds
look at a guy like larry olubamwio, he was like 10-2 or 10-3 before being busted, so not great but okay, but then after hes gone like 0-15 or something

Good work. Especially the final paragraph.
“I was tested many times. There’s many methods to get around it. Just because you didn’t get caught doesn’t mean you weren’t doing it. It just meant you didn’t get caught. I did my homework. They gave us a whole list of what not to do and I knew a lot of stuff I was doing was on that list. I did everything I could to mask it — masking drugs, catheters with other people’s urine — and then the rest is up to luck."
Most fighters keep quiet I guess because there's little to gain (publicity?), and a lot to lose (litigation?). I hope boxing doesn't end up like athletics but I'd still like to see a few more of these 'confessions'. What's the first thing that the great Finnish distance runner Lasse Viren is usually asked about? Yes, those blood doping allegations. In comparison Evander Holyfield tends to get an easier ride, whilst Mike Tyson on the other hand unfortunately seemed to be on the wrong kind of drugs altogether - performance decreasing ones.
Ultimately it's got to be better to know, even if the drug cheats don't always win.

We don't know how far she couldn't have gotten without it. She may have been 5-50 in her career without it instead of 49-14-2.
Just because someone doesn't become top of the litter doesn't mean it didn't make them better at all.

I mean she pretty much always lost when she fought girls that could actually fight anyway. Most of her wins are due to careful matchmaking to make sure "The Pretty Girl" wins.

I get that. It wasn't like she was that good. But without the PEDs, she might not have even been able to be a professional fighter.
