He was excellent. Had the misfortune of running into Duran. Excellent boxing skills and tough as nails. It's too bad there aren't that many of his fights available. The Laguna re-match was so great I'd love to have seen the first. To go into the sun and humidity of an outdoor fight in Puerto Rico and come out champion was a brilliant achievement.

Where any of his televised fights 'wiped" by the BBC in the early 1970's ?

I'm not sure what happened with his fights but there's very few available. I think less than 10 unfortunately.

I'm pretty certain that the first Buchanan-Laguna bout was televised in the US on ABC's Wide World of Sports.
I would think a tape exists.

Yes, it exists. Not great picture quality, but watchable.

I'll have to take a look.
The outcome was a big surprise to me. As I recall Buchanan was a huge underdog coming into Puerto Rico to take on the champion.
My memory was that Buchanan won comfortably with a strong performance in the late rounds.
Strangely it was Laguna who wilted in the afternoon Puerto Rican heat and not the Scotsman.
