I know it's fairly recent, but Joshua Klitchco -2nd row- not way up in the cheap seats :shame:
As for historical, Leonard/Hagler has to be one of the best ever fights.

Gartti - ward would have been good. Or Ali - Foreman.

The Rumble In The Jungle because it would be as close to watching a boxing miracle as you're likely to get.

44 years after the event it still a pinnacle of the sport. It cemented the Ali legend for eternity when so many, myself included, feared it was going to demolish it.

On a personal note, I wish me and my dad had shared more memories like that.

Because there is no footage of him I'd love to be able to jump in a Time Machine, and catch one of the Harry Greb vs Gene Tunney bouts. (Or some other major opponent that would've brought out the best in Greb)

Would love to be able to see The Great Sam Langford in the flesh as well. Not sure which specific bout I'd choose though.

For the more modern era. Any of the tremendous wars involving Bobby Chacon, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Arturo Gatti, Erik Morales...I've only been to a few Pro Boxing cards in the flesh, and never had the privilege of seeing a real wild brawl like these guys often produced in the flesh. Would love to be in the audience for one of those at least once.

In picking these historical fights to attend, is that with knowing the outcome?

Or is it going in blind like with any upcoming fight, and just basing your selection on the anticipation?

I ask because I might not want to pick a fight where I know ahead of time that my favorite fighter was going to get beaten.

Good point - I picked Leonard-Hearn 1 despite Hearns being my favourite fighter and getting KO'd in that fight.

i watched that fight again the other day, its a lot more one sided then ppl make out. hearns is almost immediately rubbery and hagler is well the boss

ppl call it the greatest ever, no way, on that level its big time lacking drama swings and two way prlonged competiveness

very good fight but a bit of a myth to me, tell me what is epic about hearns getting beat up in rounds 2 and 3 (and earlier)

Fantastic question. :TU:

I look at it in a few ways.

With foresight only, it would have to be Frazier V Ali 1 - Ali returning from exile: Two undefeated guys, both with legitimate claims to being the HW champion of the world clashing to decide who is the 'real' champion.

With hindsight, it would have to be Ali V Foreman - I still can't believe to this day that Ali pulled it off. He told the world for months before the fight that Foreman was a slow footed mummy, with dreadful stamina who could be easily picked off; shame we never believed him.

Saying all that, for social reasons, the one fight I would love to have been at was Johnson V Jeffries.

Johnson was hated for reasons we all know well, so they dragged Jeffries back into the ring to try & dethrone him to no avail.

I love the legend of Jack Johson & the man must have had bigger balls than Jupiter to act the way he did back in the early 1900s.

I agree.

Hearns landed one decent punch which apart from causing an admittedly bad cut, didn't bother Hagler & just peed him off even more & then he was done.

He broke his hand, so was in retreat for the rest of the time & because he was under so much pressure, wilted as he nearly always did when put under severe pressure.

I'm with you. There's lots of better fights than this one out there. I've even seen better ones that only went 3 or 4 rounds.

I'd pick one that probably wouldn't even be on most folks radar: Willard vs. Dempsey.

My great-grandfather was at the fight, which sparked my grandfathers interest in boxing (Dempsey being his hero), which led to my fathers interest in boxing, which led to my own. It's always been a special fight to me, given the relationship to my own family.

Probably the most violent Title Change in the history of Boxing...or at least the most violent one that's captured on film at least. You'll never see a beating so brutal in the modern era because the officials wouldn't allow it, and you can't just pounce on your opponent the second he stands up anymore, so the level of violence on display is truly historic because it simply cannot be matched ever again.

An absolutely SAVAGE beating.
