Ajagba is one of the best HW prospects to come out of Rio Olympics and this clown Harper knew he was about to get demolished.

It's a shame to have paying fans getting ripped off like that but I have a hunch Harper wont be fighting anywhere for a long time. Maybe even a lifetime suspension.

Keep an eye on Efe though, he's got a great future in the HW division.

Just watched this off my DVR. Crazy stuff, I've never seen anything like it.

Maybe he waited until the opening bell to pull out because he thought he'd still get paid? But I have to assume the promoter will be withholding his purse.

Ha ha! Well, how do they say, discretion is the better part of valor!

This perhaps should turn out to be good publicity for Ajagba; if he's got a good promotional team surely they can make some hay out of this. Probably more than even if he'd just KO'd the guy anyway. I mean, this never happened to Mike Tyson even!

Surely

I would actually be pissed off to hear he got paid after this...because I mean what would stop other jackoffs from doing this if he did?

The staredown wasn't scary at all. I mean dudes still stood and fought after some of Wanderlei Silva's staredowns, and this guy wasn't half as scary as that

Wanderlei is one of the only dudes I've seen in Combat Sports that truly looks frightening when you're the guy that's about to fight him.

This doesn't look like it has anything to do with fear. It looks very calculated. It's not like he hasn't been beaten or knocked out before either; why would he suddenly be scared now? I wouldn't be surprised if this was financially motivated in some way.

Good point!! It definitely wont hurt Ajagba's resume. I'm watching a small club show on Facebook right now and they mentioned it on air, even though that card is in SoCal, way across the country.

It was, but it was an absolutely idiotic move. He apparently thought he deserved more money so instead he decided to do this and get no money.

If I were any promoter anywhere I'd never put this guy on my card ever again after this bullsh*t, and I'd tell him or his manager "I'm not booking that f*cking loser" in those exact words if they called and asked.

No doubt it was idiotic and could be a career killer. It just didn't look like fear to me, especially coming from a guy who has already been around and thrashed some in his career.

I agree it wasn't fear of the opponent. Just pure idiocy. He thinks it's a good career move I guess. It's a career killer.

Harper can actually fight a little bit. That's what makes this so perplexing.
The kid got up off the canvas in the first round against Chris Arreola about a year or so ago to give Arreola a good scrap over the distance. Plus he'd fought the massive Silver medalist from China, Zhang. So, one wouldn't peg him as a coward. And, yet, what he did was certainly not the actions of a fighter sporting a winning record of 13-5 going in.
Apparently, he's using the excuse that his purse was too small for the work at hand. But surely he couldn't have expected that he'd be paid after walking out of the ring in protest, could he? I guess we'll never know for sure what went through his head at that moment before he acted. He may say one thing but I doubt if it will be the entire truth.

Whatever the case may be with Harper the fact remains that Efe Ajagba is a force to be reckoned with. Thus far all of his opponents have had winning records with his third pro opponent being the dangerous spoiler Rodney Hernandez who just upset the 16-0 world rated LaRon Mitchell a couple of months back. Ajagba stopped him in five rounds.
Obviously, they're going to have to fast track him a bit & find opponents that will actually show up to fight. Which means tough journeymen & lower tier top 40 contenders. Placing him right up there with his fellow Olympians from 2016 Joe Joyce & Filip Hrgovic.

i agree, he looks good, to me more promising and long term potential then hrgovic, dychko, yoka, joyce

he was actually beating up dychko in the last round of there olympic fight, but lost because dychko narrowly pitter pattered his way to the first 2 rounds

Seems a very strange way to try to gain respect. Screwing the paying public is not the answer. If what you're offered isn't enough, don't take the fight.

It'll serve Harper right if people who don't know anything about him assume he simply lost his bottle and scuttled off in fear.

I feel sorry for Efe too, left standing holding his dick. Total lack of respect Harper. Shameful.

Not so strange ... he got my respect ...

I spent way too much time in boxing gyms where many of the fighters had nothing ... not even a place to sleep sometimes ... and got used and abused by promoters over and over again ... not even earning enough to pay rent ...

He was being set-up and he knew it ... and he just decided at the last moment that it wasn't worth it ... and it wasn't ... so he just said "fvck 'em ... I ain't doin' this shitt" ... and walked away ... and he was 100% right in doing so ... I agree ... fvck 'em ...

... (and fvck all you guys too) ...

It looks like another athlete who feels he has to make some sort of "statement" in front of a national television audience.

Everyone has a gripe, this one financial, and believes their grievance must be aired on a public stage.

Harper will probably now become a media star, in the tradition of another protester, Kaepernick.

Remains to be seen whether any promoter will use him in the future because he's exposed himself as undependable.

A hefty fine and suspension is warranted. If Harper was unhappy with the slave wages that were offered, he never should have stepped foot in the ring and wasted everyone's time.

Those who purchased tickets certainly deserved better.
