By all accounts, Patterson was robbed against Jimmy Ellis. If Patterson was given the decision he deserved, Floyd would have fought Joe Frazier.
What would have happened?

One left hook lands on Floyd's whiskers and it's the Liston fights all over again.

That's pretty much what I thought.

I can't imagine it going any other way.
1970 was prime Frazier and Patterson, while still capable, had peaked years earlier.
His chin simply wasn't built to withstand a wicked puncher.

I was watching Frazier-Quarry I the other day, 1969 fight. Frazier had developed into a total monster by that point. Seriously heavy handed fighter with frighteningly well-placed punches. I could only see Floyd getting killed.

I agree with the popular opinion, that Frazier would have knocked him out. Patterson was past-prime in any case, but even if he was in better conditions, his chin would have spoiled it for him. Yeah, in 1970 Smokin' Joe was at his best, he truly was a beast, a relentless wrecking machine. It could have been a pretty quick KO, in a 4-6 rounds or so.

Frazier being the slow starter that he is might've taken a few rounds to get into high gear, but I can't imagine Patterson making it any further than Round 3 or 4 against Smokin' Joe.

I can't imagine Patterson lasting more than four rounds against the 1970 Frazier.

Good chance Patterson lasts one round but unlike the Liston fights it might have been exciting for 2.30; Patterson would have landed some wicked punches of his own before succumbing; fast hands and Frazier was hitable.

This is not a good matchup for Floyd Patterson.

Only reason that it might go beyond 1 round is that Frazier started slow.
But 3 or 4 tops.

Even prime for prime, Joe Frazier had the type of style that would have bullied Patterson to a brutal stoppage.. By 1970 this would have been a mismatch.

I love Floyd Patterson; he is my favourite HW, but he was no match for Frazier.
Smokin' Joe would have steamrolled him & flattened him in about 3.
Patterson only last that long because Joe sometimes needed a couple of rounds to warm up.

Yes, we love Floyd Patterson and admire his accomplishments, but in the 1970 he would be not match for "Smokin" Joe Frazier who would give Patterson a Sonny Liston treatment that would last in 2 or 3 rounds.

As everyone says just all wrong for Patterson. Then again you could have said that about Bonavena for Patterson but Frazier was obviously much more accomplished.
