The heavyweight clash between Erkan Teper and Robert Helenius is back on, reports German website boxen1.com.

The two were recently co-challengers for the EU title but no deal was made and then Teper signed for a fight against Edmund Gerber for September 29 in Stuttgart with the vacant IBF I/C title at stake.

However, according to boxen1.com, Gerber has pulled out due to illness and in comes Helenius, on late notice, with about a month to go.

These two were as previously reported on to fight in December of 2015 but Teper pulled out due to injury and it was then also revealed there was a positive doping test. Teper then lost back to back fights against Christian Hammer and Mariusz Wach but has since scored some wins.

Helenius just came back from a hand injury and outscored for the second time Belorus Yuri Bykhautsov.

Not an easy fight to pick. Teper seems to be suffering from his recent lack of pharmaceutical assistance and Helenius seems to be devoid of ambition these days. I'll take an interest because it seems to be two fighters who are not far apart in terms of their effectiveness, so it should at least be competitive in that sense.

I'm going for Helenius by decision because he is taller and has a decent jab whereas the advantages Teper would have had to compensate haven't been much in evidence since he cleaned up his act.

Interesting fight. I hope to see Helenius get back to his old form, but so far his return has been unimpressive. He really hasn't gad a good win in seven years.

It was a decent fight. Helenius performed well, he was keeping Teper on the distance, used his jab in a proper way, landed solid power shots and hurt Teper from time to time. Teper's attempts to break through gave almost nothing him. At the end of the 8th Helenius caught Teper with a good combination coming out of the clinch, Teper went down hard and was counted out.

Wow. This is the best legit win of Helenius's career since he KO'ed Sam Peter. Duhaupas beat Helenius, Teper narrowly beat Duhaupas, and now Helenius beats Teper. I guess this should put Helenius back in the top 25. This also somewhat undermines the value of Wach's and Hammer's wins over Teper. Such a game changer.

Now let's see Helenius test someone like Wallin, Kean, or Rivas.

Thank you Doc. I got as far as "It was a decent fight" then I stopped reading and went off to watch the fight on YouTube without knowing the result.

I suggest anybody who is reading this and somehow has avoided the result does the same without reading any further.

I thought ahead of the event it was a hard fight to pick a winner and even right up to the end I wasn't sure which way it was going to go. Although I had Helenius comfortably ahead, Teper was throwing big right hands that, had they landed, could have ended the fight there and then. I never saw the ending coming it was emphatic and spectacular.

Result

In a battle for the vacant International Boxing Federation Inter-Continental heavyweight title, Robert Helenius (28-2, 17 KOs) looked in deadly form with a crushing knockout victory over Erkan Teper (19-3, 12 KOs) in the eight round.

Helenius had the edge in the contest, and then in the eight caught Teper with sensational shot for the knockout. A big left hand sent Teper down and out cold on his back.

Teper was coming off a three fight winning streak, after losing back to back decisions to Christian Hammer and Mariusz Wach.

And Helenius banks in his third straight win, after a poor showing in a decision loss to Dillian Whyte in October of 2017.

The two fighters were actually scheduled to face each other in 2015, but the contest fell out after Teper suffered an injury and withdrew from the bout.

Good win for Helenius. He was in control most of the fight and won most of the rounds too.

Guy still has good power. The shot that first hurt Teper was short and compact. Didn't seem to have much in it. Then another left sealed the deal. Teper wasn't no where near of getting up during the count.

Teper looked one dimensional in the fight and the pace was slow. Just the kind of fight that Helenius needs to thrive

Yeh. THIS Helenius would have given Whyte some problems.

Good to see Teper getting stretched out like that, it always angered me the way he knocked out David Price badly, while on the juice.... Justice!!!

Helenius strikes me as something of a "flat track bully". If he fancies the job and thinks he can win, he can be quite an imposing fighter, but he can be intimidated by a superior opponent and retreats into a defensive shell and goes into survival mode.

In fairness I have heard it said that he suffered an early injury against Whyte which caused him to switch to safety mode and this does ring true to me because it appeared to me that he had Dillian looking very stiff-legged having caught him with a big shot in the second, in fact I thought Dillian might struggle to see out the third if not the second.

I can't believe Teper lost. Helenius is back in contention for sure. That's a hell of a win.

I just watched the fight. Wow Helenius is back on track. I was hoping he'd come back and go right to the top and maybe he will now. I like his viking entrances. Rus are vikings too! Taper looked extremely dangerous. I think he would have knocked out David Price last night just the same as he did before. He looked the same off drugs as he did on drugs. They all do to me. I don't think drugs really enhance boxing ability. They enhance body appearance for bodybuilding purposes and make a person look cut up. I would like to see drugs legalized. I like the so called wars on drugs a lot less than drugs themselves.
