Interesting they’re giving him a step back fight tonight after beat Velez. Not sure the thinking here. Trying to give him more rounds? You’d think they would just giving him a parallel opponent to Velez again. Not peel back to a journeyman.

i mean is it really that much of a step back, velez lost to a 6-0 guy only like a year and a half before he fought garcia, and hes pretty much never beaten anyone good hes faced. juanma was shot big time.

there similar opponents imo, velez more recognizable name but morales is bigger then velez and has been 130 or higher pretty much all career, and he was on a 16-0 streak with wins over other prospects before machado decisioned him, hardly some prolific losing journeyman

wouldnt be surprised at all if morales beat velez

Morales is probably a slight step down but not enough to slow his progress. Ryan Garcia is Oscar's personal favorite among all his many prospects so I'm sure Oscar has his reasons for selecting Morales. Maybe De La Hoya and others on his team have been watching Carlos' previous fights and see something to make them believe Morales would be a good learning experience for Ryan.

And you make a good point about getting some rounds under Garcia's belt. Like Ryan's previous opponent Velez, Morales has never been stopped so it wont be a surprise if this one goes the distance. A year ago, Carlos showed a good chin against current WBA super feather champ Alberto Machado right before Machado KOd Jezreel Corrales. Machado was riding a 12-bout KO win streak before Carlos took him the distance last August.

Yep. They had a broadcast a couple weeks ago on fb and messed up big time. Hopefully everything runs smoothly tonight.

Wait, what? Morales is a step up. It's not an enormous step up, but I think Morales would beat Velez at this point. Velez is purely a name.

Morales is not good.

if hes not good neither is velez

id take morales over velez, and morales gave garcia a much tougher test

velez losing more to prospects , including a 6-0 one, doesnt make him a better fighter. hes also naturally smaller then morales. can you really say youd be surprised if morales beat velez?

Nothing special with this kid. Something like a B+ to max and he keeps on calling out Spence. We all know what will happen once they stepped in the ring. Spence by KO! :bag: :bag: :bag:

Are you sure that he has called out Spence?

Garcia is only a super featherweight (130) and Spence is a big 147 pounder.

Garcia is cocky but not crazy.

He seems to have interest in Tank Davis. Or at least talks about him a lot.

I think he misread the title and thought Mikey Garcia.

R. Garcia is solid, needs alot more work and experience before he really steps up in class of opponent.

Agreed. He should fight a good number of current level opponents before moving up in class.

That would make more sense.

Mikey Garcia would probably lose to Spence but could be competitive. He's a textbook fighter.

Ryan Garcia would be destroyed.

Sorry for that. Getting confused with Mikey and Ryan. Was supposed to mention Tank Davis though. :brick:
