Eggington v Rios

Sam Eggington v Brandon Rios is apparently a possibility for the AJ/Povetkin undercard later this month. Bit out of the blue this! Doubt Rios would come cheap even though he's well past his best. He's never fought at 154 to my knowledge. Why wait until weeks before the event to announce this?
Seems odd.

I think they're waiting to announce it after Eggington v Mwakinyo on saturday - I guess if Eggington wins, then Matchroom will probably make it official

Most likely this.

They better hope he doesn't get cut or injured... Seems really fuckin strange negotiating a fight with Rios and sticking Eggington in with some unknown lad 2 weeks before risking injury!

Not for me.
The only fight of any relevance for Brandon Rios is the Victor Ortiz fight.

Rios should be staying retired for his own safety. He’s been taking head shots for the past ten years.

Aye true. He's been talking a bit slurry for years now. I noticed it when he fought Pacquiao possibly before! That was a corker of a KO from Garcia as well.

Weird isn't it?
I don't know why Ritson is on the card either, a few weeks before a European title fight on a show he is headlining.
One stray headbutt or elbow could curtail both future fights.

Aye mate really strange. He'd be as well just pulling the two of them out. It's not as if they're saving the Birmingham card! It's already shít and they're not making it any better by being on it beating up nobodies!

Who'd have thought at the start of Eggington's career in 2012 that he'd end up having Malignaggi and potentially Rios on his resume. Who's next? Always High Mike Alvarado? Antonio Margarito? Nobody is safe.

It’s a favoured tactic of his promoter. Fight a ‘name’ with nothing left to offer.

lol funny thing is i think they tried matching him with 1 eye margarito
defo seems one part of eggs plan has been to match him with these seriously faded name types. was paulie, and then talk of margarito, and now rios. tbf hes also had plenty of good decent matches with live guys too though

I reckon the plan behind putting him up with these 'well known' names is to give him a bit of recognition before sending him off to fight in the States. Fair play to Sam, he takes anything that is put in front of him. Although to be honest if he didn't i think he would be surplus to requirement by Matchroom.
