David Price vs. Sergey Kuzmin - 22 September 2018

David Price faces another Russian dangerman on Anthony Joshua undercard

David Price has been added to the Anthony Joshua vs Alexander Povetkin undercard at Wembley Stadium on September 22.

Price will fight Sergey Kuzmin, an unbeaten 12-0 Russian prospect. The Briton was the last man to box Povetkin, who halted David in Cardiff in March to set up his shot at WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight champion Joshua. Kuzmin similarly will be looking to use Price to catapult himself into the upper tier of heavyweight boxing.

Although the Liverpudlian heavyweight has taken this at short notice, he was preparing for an October 5 bout that fell through. Price is taking a gamble, but it’s a calculated risk. Victory over Kuzmin, on an event of this scale, will lead him on to significant heavyweight fights.

Earlier today, an article stated, in the words of Price,

“And, even now, every fight I go into I will look at it the same, there’s nothing to lose. I really believe that people are going to see the best of me in the next few years and for whatever reason it’s just took until now to see it, but that’s what I believe. And if it isn’t, say I stunk the gaff out in my next fight, I would probably walk away, but I do believe that there’s something left from what I’ve shown before which is why I’m still taking it seriously. I was offered to fight this other Russian on the [September 22] Joshua card and it was a good fight for good money but I decided against it because there was a fair chance I would have lost. It was a winnable fight, 50-50 in my eyes, but at this moment in time I need to be taking fights that are slightly more in my favour, so I can build a bit of momentum again. I need to put a few wins together instead of win one, lose one, win a couple and then jump in again. I need to find my form and build my momentum so when these fights do come I’ll be ready with both hands – so that’s why I made that decision.”

“It’s a gamble because if I did slip up in one of my next fights it would be the end and I could have had a nice few quid in the bank which I probably wouldn’t see again. But it was a calculated one where I sat down and thought about it properly and in the past I’ve been guilty of these type of things.”

I'm confused, is this fight on or not? Hearn claiming its a done deal but going by the quoted Price article he's not interested & rightly so. Could still have a decent few years but needs to build himself back up again. He won over some fans with his spirited showing against Povetkin but needs a couple of wins after such a brutal loss if nothing else but to restore his confidence.

That's what confused me.. The article with that quote was reported in the morning. So Price would have said all that in the last few days.. But as of today.. He's now taking the fight.

Another one that doesn't look good for Pricey on paper.

Boxing Scene. The article was Price talking about a few things including Bellew vs. Usyk.

What is the point to this ? We all know he will box nicely for a round or 2 before getting KO'd , one day he will get badly hurt and he needs protecting not thrown into another fight with a big puncher

David Price is like that big guy in Indiana Jones who gets punched about 10 times but wants to keep fighting (the one who gets a propeller in his face)

Ive got a lot of time for Price and I wish him well but surely someone on his payroll should be trying to get him to avoid this, he hasn't had a meaningful win in years, he should've just fought a domestic level fighter after Turner pulled out, how many rolls of the dice can he keep taking?, why keep trying to leapfrog levels when its been clear for years that he needs rebuilding from the ground up?

Price has become a very bad joke at this stage

The fight is 100% on for anyone wondering. Price also confirmed it on his insta.

"Big chance for me at short notice next week but make no mistake about it I'm coming to win. I fight for a living and this is a FIGHT."

War Big Truck.

David Price will always make a fight interesting imo.
Big opportunity for Kuzmin who will probably win via KO....

I cant help but think id rather see Pricey vs brits tho.
He got KOd by Pov, good possibility of it happening again vs this other random Russian... Where is Dave Allen, or fights against the Fury's Joyce, Nate Gorman, Dubois etc?

Even Hrgovic has been offering big money. :o Surely fight fans would prefer that!

Can only see Price getting smashed again.

Like I said before the Povetkin fight. He should just throw bombs in round one and hope for the best.

does look another very tough match for price, and yet another sort of jump up rrather then rebuilding at a lower level like he was originally gonna do vs turner

only thing ill say is that kuzmin looks a bit open and sloppy and really hasnt had a chin test, and hes less experienced as a pro then all the guys who beat price---and let me remind you that all but one of those guys was given a count and had to overcome some adversity, which inexperienced kuzmin has never done. theres stilll a bit of unknown about him as a 12-0 pro and price is defo his best opponent barring maybe that 2.5 rounds vs mansour, but mansour really didnt do anything in that fight

after mansour, kuzmins best opponents are all guys id expect price to have beaten too. shot and old malcolm tann, badly faded konstantine airich, journeyman rodney hernandez etc

so while i favour kuzmin, to me there is still a bit of intrigue here

After the Pov fight, this is what he said he'd do. Fight domestic and build from there. Instead he's had 2 pull outs.

Is Price aiming to become the heavyweight version of Darnell Boone?

I wonder how much he is getting paid for this, with the Rios/Eggington fight falling through (Hearn's fault 100%), there must have been plenty of surplus cash lying around to make the big man change his mind.

Kuzmin will be a heavy favourite, but i'll be rooting for Pricey, he has to get a win against a decent fighter eventually.....
