I just don't know, based on what Bellew can be picked now. Probably you should be a big fan to pick him to win. Usyk is much better boxer, he will outbox Bellew just like he did to Gassiev. Or maybe it will even be Huck-like fight, with an eventual stoppage. Yeah, Bellew has some powah, he made some upsets, but now that's not the case. Usyk has the chin, which he likely won't even need there.

He has never fought a world title fight in Ukraine. He fought in Ukraine up until he fought Glowacki in 2016.

Undefeated in like 6-7 countries.

I am not sure I would pick Bellew against any of those.

If Bellew is coming back down to cruiserweight, Usyk will knock him out.

Bellew has been dabbling at heavy for a while and the weight cut will drain him.

I don't consider Usyk a big banger, but Bellew will be dismantled at under 200 lbs.

and bellew was soft even at 210 and really soft at 213, if he cant get that 10 pounds off w/o it being a huge problem then dude might have some training or diet problems. your talking about a guy who campaigned at lhw for years and only fought twice at hw

The weight thing won't even matter. It could be at Heavyweight, and Usyk would still absolutely school Bellew. He's on another level.

This will be a shutout, and he might even stop Bellew. That's the way it'd be at Heavyweight or Cruiserweight. He's just plain better than Bellew.

Better than David Haye too. Even the best version of David Haye.

But even though it's only been 2 fights and maybe 1 1/2 years, Bellew is an older guy and usually when older fighters decide to cut weight, it ends disastrously.

It's a reason I think Pacquiao would be listless and ineffective against Lomachenko at 140. And forget about 135. Ridiculous.

I remember when Eddie Chambers came down from heavyweight to take on Mchunu.

I picked Mchunu. Everyone else said that Chambers was a small heavyweight and the weight cut would be beneficial.

Mchunu won every round over a lethargic Chambers, who immediately returned to heavyweight.

I forecast the same fate for Bellew. Now he would undoubtedly lose to Usyk even at heavyweight. Usyk is simply better.

But at cruiserweight Bellew will barely land a punch and struggle to survive round after round.

It should be at HW imo. That's where the future lies for Usyk and Bellew woukd be a nice easy debut for him at hw.

well since tony says he always upsets the odds i guess that means hes losing this time

btw , from my count tony bellew has

-won 3 times as underdog (haye x2 and makabu)
-lost 2 times as underdog (steve and clev 1)
-failed to win once as favourite (chilemba 1)

some ppl said he was dog vs clev in the rematch as well, but a search shows most odds favouring bellew slightly. tbf, as a cruiser is 3-0 as dog, but then again usyk is 15-0 as fav.

What about the Masternak fight?

im seeing odds from a few books that had bellew favourite, i think in uk terms these odds are like 1/3 for bellew, i really doubt bellew wasnt favoured vs master

Bellew IMO looked in his best shape for the rematch vs Haye.


Hes 210lbs there... Fully hydrated and probably had breakfast etc.
I find the idea that he will struggle to get to the CW limit baffling really..

i know its strange, and pip why are you talking like hes some career hw moving down, rather then a guy who spent years at lhw and hardly any time at hw. hed hardly have anything to drain after losing some fat.

He's 36.

In mid 30s, Bellew was undoubtedly struggling to stay a cruiser. So he put on 15 lbs or so and became a small heavy.

It doesn't sound like a lot, but at Bellew's age, suddenly losing it will take a toll.

Again, it really won't matter. Usyk owns Bellew at either cruiser or heavy.

But Bellew would at least fight back against Usyk at heavyweight, no matter how ineffectively.

At cruiser, Bellew will be as competitive as Jean Pierre Coopman.

Yes, the weight could be an issue. I think he has to lose about a stone from his last fight. But it could go ok for him too. Age is an intangible, some people are still roaring at 36 and Tony seems to be improving with age. Bellew is not like the people Usyk has faced so far. He knows he can’t beat Usyk at his own game and he knows what it’s like to be up against it. Bellew is going to get rough and he is good at that style, plus he can whack.

Bellew is elusive enough to stay away from the pity-paddy-barrages that gassiev coming straight forward ate up all fight long. He was weighing around 210 as a heavyweight, same he will weigh rehydrated as a cruiser, don't see neither the difference nor any problem! He has the powah, if he catches him clean, to knock out usyk. If he's able to land anything of note, we are about to see. I think it will be a highly tactical fight, with usyk having to land a lot to knock out bellew, who will be extra-cautios, allmost always staying 2 steps away, occasionally pumping in the jump-forward jab plus a powah-hand with the stadium & comentators loosing it whenever he remotely lands ANYTHING, WHICH will be ENOUGH for the "influenced" judges to give "all the belts and all the marbles and all that" to bellew. Wouldn't surprise me a bit! Of course, in a fairly judged fight, usyk would most probably win!
