Canelo will choose to take the bout that provides him with the biggest available payday and will only consider defending his titles if facing a mandatory challenger coincides with this objective.

For instance: Canelo would not bother to think twice about vacating all of his belts if he had to choose between a third GGG bout or perform a mandatory defence against someone like Jermall Charlo.

I feel that the belts don't mean much to the Mexican as he considers himself as being "bigger" than the sports governing bodies... and let's face it, he probably is.

That being said, I strongly suspect that GBP will probably want to protect Canelo and grant him an easy payday for his next outing , after two tough back-to-back bouts against GGG, so don't be surprised to see the Mexican facing off against a journeyman in the mould of a "Vanes Martirosyan" type opponent, such as David Lemieux, even if it means getting stripped of his titles.

Canelo has struggled massively to make the 154 limit since 2014. He's a full size middleweight, however long it took him to fight at the full 160. Apart from the huge middleweights like Jacobs, who should really be fighting at 168, he weighs about the same as most of them on fight night, possibly more in some cases. He has much better stamina at 160 too. That says it all. I hope he stays there.

With only 6 pounds between divisions, I don't think there's any such thing as a tweener - just a few fighters who insist on killing themselves to make a limit they really DON'T belong at (Brook at 147, Canelo at 154 etc), or those with poor discipline meaning they struggle to make the weight they DO belong at (Gervonta, Lemieux, Broner etc).

The rest of what you say, I agree with fully (even though I know we saw last night's fight differently). Canelo is much bigger than the belts.
