who are the biggest fighters for there division today?

Post by jamamb »

apparently munguia according to hbo gained over 21 pounds from the weigh in vs cook, and was actually within cruiser range on fight night. and lem gained a lot and was just under 180 on fightnight.

of course they both made the limits at the weigh in, but got me thinking, which fighters today are the biggest/put on the most weight in proportion to there division? excludes hws...

I would rather see Munguia vs Lemieux in December.

Spence is a huge welter. Hurd is a massive SWelter.

I honestly can not comprehend gaining 21 pounds in 24 hours

Me. I'm 6'1" and this morning weighed 154lb, so I don't think it's a stretch that I could make welterweight.

I can't box, but that's neither here nor there.

Man, you guys have some ridiculously small frames.

I like this topic. We've seen some massive fighters in the ring. I'd like to take a crack at this.

HW: Joshua
CW: Kudryashov
LHW: Don't know--off the top of my head, probably Gvozdyk seems to be the biggest guy to me
SMW: Ramirez or Benavidez
MW: Lemieux
LWW: Munguia
WW: Spence Jr.
LWW: Ramirez or Orozco
LW: Campbell--Easter looks too skinny, but Campbell looked enormous against Linares, like a damn WW.
SFW: Berchelt
FW: Leduan Barthelemy
SBW: Diego De La Hoya
BW: Nery
SFW: Sor Rungvisai
FW: Higa
LFW: Taguchi
SW: --

Probably someone can make a better list, but this is off the top of my head.

Good topic. Whilst the fact that Munguia's weight gain being allowed by boxing authorities is disgraceful, I think going back Paul Williams & Corey Spinks & Margarito were all doing similar amounts at similar weights years ago.

Anyway just making the point that Munguia's a disgrace but it's been going on for about a decade at least now. For today's guys, Sor Rungvisai is fricking huge, as is Carlos Cuadras. Danny Jacobs couldn't/wouldn't meet the fight morning check weight limit versus Golovkin.

On that note, isn't that why Canelo doesn't fight for the IBF title these days? Because he refuses to meet the check weigh-in on the day of the fight?

Only in boxing: one good idea comes up & everyone just ignores it 'cos money.

Good list. at 154 Hurd is bigger than Munguia IMO. At 175, look at Anthony Yarde :D Lemieux is not big :O

Yeah, probably Yarde. I forgot about Joe Smith Jr. too.

Not too sure about Hurd being bigger than Munguia. Hurd can make the IBF rehydration rule. I don't think Munguia could.

Lemieux regularly rehydrates 20 lbs. The man couldn't even make the IBF rehydration rule for the Stevens fight. I can see Jacobs also being in the running, but I think the weight gain was more tact than him not being able to make it.

Nope, just an ectomorph - skinny wrists and ankles, small muscles etc. The heaviest I've weighed was 173lb and U had a gut and love handles at that weight, despite a supposedly ideal BMI.

Yes, and Spence should be mentioned here, I think he is a natural MW.

Forgot about Spence. LOL.

Also, Donaire is HUGE compared to other participants in the WBSS.
