James DeGale has announced that he will return in an eight-rounder on September 30 in America before having a big fight in December.

The bout will take place as a tune-up for the Brit on the undercard of Victor Ortiz v John Molina Jr, no opponent has been revealed as yet.
I’m boxing in a 8 rounder September 30th in L.A on the #OrtizvsMolina bill… when I get through that iv got something nice and juicy for you in December 💪🏽👊🏽

Quick and easy announcement. Just a stay active fight.. God knows who it will be..

I take it he's gonna have a big fight lined up for December.

If he fights 3 times this year, it would be good. I don't expect this will even be a top 15 org rated boxer hell fight. Just a quick 8 round bout.

I'm surprised Degale is willing to risk a big December fight.

I thought he'd be hoping for the Groves rematch and cash out with that. It's arguably the biggest possible fight for him.

Chris Eubank Jr. would be a high-profile, low-risk fight for DeGale.

I like DeGale and don't rate Eubank that highly but I'm not sure that's a low risk fight for DeGale at this stage. Groves controlled Eubank with his jab and DeGale, probably due to injuries, doesn't have one.

He might well be at the stage where some 15-27 Lithuanian knocks him out.

I don't really rate DeGale's career.. Considering he's an Olympic Gold medalist too..

He's had a poor pro career.

not sure i agree, brit, euro , and world champ. was #1 smw in the world and universal top 3 in many rankings for a time. won the title in a really good fight away from home vs dirrell, beat rejuventated bute in a good one in butes backyard, really entertaining draw vs top opponent in jack

lost to groves but that was really close and a memorable domestic fight for me. avenged loss to truax

id say hes had a fine career even considering his amateur level

He's won a lot. Not going to deny him that. I don't know, I guess I just feel he could have achieved even more. He did try to unify, ended a draw. Took a lot of damage. If anything I think he took too much damage. He's clever though, He knows his times is limited. Lot's of rumours that he'll fight Eubank Jr. in December.

Yeah for all Eubank Jr’s technical flaws, his main strengths (stamina / workrate / chin) would make things extremely uncomfortable for DeGale. I’d say it’s a 50-50 fight, and I don’t rate Eubank particularly highly, but think his style is all wrong for DeGale.

Yeh, he would be too much DeGale. He has a solid engine.

This fight is as easy as it gets, much smaller guy who only wins against local road sweepers and who always gets Ko'd on the road.
It terms of Eubank, Jr is too rough and tough for the fragile Londoner and will eventually walk through him. This is not the Degale of 10 years ago, or even 3! He is a lighter version of Haye!
This is why they have taken such a low risk warm up fight and will then look to cash in.
