Ali Trophy Super-Middleweight Final reserve Chris Eubank Jr. faces JJ McDonagh over ten rounds on the George Groves vs Callum Smith undercard on 28 September at The Indoor Sports Hall at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Eubank Jr. (26-2, 20 KOs), who was defeated in a thrilling semi-final by Groves, will be on standby to enter the final in the unlikely scenario of one of the original participants being unable to compete.

“I have been training hard in Vegas, and I am looking be a part of the event in Jeddah,” said Eubank Jr. “I am preparing for any scenario that may present itself.”

Eubank Jr.’s opponent in Jeddah is Ireland’s powerful southpaw JJ McDonagh (16-4, 8 KOs).

"I'm surprised he did not retire after he embarrassed himself against Groves," said McDonagh.

"Eubank is a fit man but he does not know how to fight hard, I’m a fighting man from a fighting family of generations of fighters. I am going to knock him out!"

McDonagh picked up the WBA International Light-Heavyweight title in 2016, as he defeated England’s Jake Ball and earned himself a KO of The Year contender, after a sensational first round stoppage.

Im surprised at that , I watched it on a Turkish YouTube channel so didn't get UK commentary .
His comments on the Groves / jnr fight made a change from the usual kiss ass sky stuff .
But it did seem well ott.

Saw him KO Ball, it was a cracking finish.

This is a bit of a mismatch. But then again, so was Briedis’ reserve fight.

this could be an interesting fight, looking forwrd to this one. do people think it's 100% nailed on to go ahead? any chances for any reason that it wouldn't happen or is that unlikely?

Definitely going to happen. Unless injury..

Was never going to be a top opponent on this card. He's a reserve for the main event so they need him in against someone relatively inexpensive in case the fight needs to be pulled. Similar to the French kid Briedis boxed on the Usyk-Gassiev undercard.

JJ McDonagh Blasts Eubanks as "Fakes"

Ireland’s JJ McDonagh (16-4, 8 KOs) has fanned the flames ahead of next week’s meeting with Chris Eubank Jr. (26-2, 20 KOs) by branding the Eubanks a joke act.

He was not been impressed with the way the Eubanks go about their business.

Talking to The Sun, McDonagh hit out at both men and admitted he struggles to take them seriously.

He said: “Their relationship is a gimmick. One minute they don't seem to like each other and then they're standing next to one another like they're united together. I can't take them seriously — it's all an act.”

“Jr is moody all the time when he's around his father,” he added. “Any opportunity Sr has to be in the ring he's there — without fail. It's about trying to stay in the limelight. One is living off the other one's name and vice versa.”
