Fury beats Wilder then AJ then retires unbeaten. Rank him.

For arguments sakes Fury outpoints Wilder then AJ before retiring with a 29-0 (19KO) record. With wins over Klitschko, Wilder and AJ how would he rank amongst the likes of Ali, Louis, Holmes etc?

The answer comes down to where you rank AJ, that version of Wlad and Wilder.

That answer is "not that highly on an all-time great list" so Fury would move up from the crap bottom levels but not hugely. Top 40 probably. Maybe top 30

those 3 wins would easily top anything the likes vitali has done and prob wlad too

personally , i think ppl give too much credit for a lot of decent wins relative to a few very good wins, thats why ggg has always been overrated to me, it takes another level to beat the top guys

He would need more longevity if you are going to rank him there. Also if he beat Wilder convincingly and Wilder never fought again, the American would be regarded alongside the likes of Bruno.
AJ would need more than a win over a faded Klit to be regarded as a top heavyweight in the bigger scheme of things.

Look at Leon Spinks, a great win against Ali and then precious more. To be regarded in the elites you need longevity and also wins against the top heavyweights of different ages.

Top ten for me for sure.

Wlad in Germany
Wilder in America
Joshua in the lions den.

Very close to top five and a living legend but I don’t think he will

So you are saying that only 4 other men in history could have beaten Wlad in Germany, Wider in America and Joshua in the UK?

If Fury even manages to beat Wilder and AJ I would still struggle to rank him amongst the other ATGs, purely on the fact he wouldn't have had any longevity or many defences. I can see how some would argue that he would have beaten the best 3 HWs of his era but for me he would need more than that. A bit like if Buster Douglas retired after knocking out Mike Tyson, as great as that one win was, far better than Furys win over Klitschko, it wouldn't make me rank Douglas in the top 10 HWs of all time.

Corrie Sanders beat Wlad more conclusively than anyone

Would rank him the best since Lewis in that scenario but not better.

Is your boxing history 5 months old?

Foreman - beat unbeaten Frazier, beat unbeaten Moorer who was a beast at the age of 45
Frazier - beat an unbeaten Ali who many consider the GOAT
Ali - beat unbeaten Foreman, beat Frazier twice, Patterson, Cooper, Liston etc etc
Holyfield - stepped up from Crusier, beat Tyson, Mooer, Douglas, Holmes, Bowe, Mercer, Rahman
Lewis - beat Tyson, Grant, Bruno, Holyfield, V. Klistschko, Tua, Briggs (a lot of who are arguably better than any current HW champ)

That's just the first five that came to my head, not even included Tyson, Holmes, Maciano, Joe Lewis, Patterson, Liston, Jack Johnson, the Klischko brothers, Max Schmeling, Jack Dempsey all of who are easily above Fury even if he beat AJ and Wilder on the same night

That's the trouble with heavyweights and history - does not compute :maybe:
Jack Dempsey, Joe Frazier, Marciano.., loads of great names that would be smaller on fight night than, (for example) the 5'9" Anthony Yarde :witzend:

Fury would play with all them small men. Man is getting bigger stronger fitter more professional. The most stupid thing I ever heard was rope a dope was a great boxing tactic. Incorrect as maywesther also states as great boxers don’t get hit much. The current crop of boxers are the best and it’s the same with most other sports. Ronaldo and Messi would sh@t on best pele etc

I wouldn't describe Fury as fitter or more professional. And since you are generalising I think in general boxers are less skilled than in the past, mainly because they don't fight as much. Oh and bigger isn't always necessarily better.

I believe they are less skilled thesedays. Mayweather is considered the best of the current generation. Hearns, Leonard and Duran would all have beaten him

The lower end of the top twenty. As others have said, he needs longevity to be placed higher. I do think he’s the best of recent years but I think an old Klitschko, AJ and Wilder wouldn’t be a strong enough resume by themselves...

He wouldn't even be rated that high.

As exciting as the heavyweight division potentially is the reality is that every one of the top 3 are pretty average at best in overall heavyweight terms. Each of the three have limitations aplenty

The guys you mentioned fought 15 rounds. None of the top 3 could do that, AJ especially. Big guys gass, even with modern training methods, aftercare and supplements

Some of those fought with smaller gloves, too. Same as Pele played with a heavier ball. Comparisons are all guesswork.
danconnollyeire wrote: 26 Sep 2018, 06:57Lewis - beat Tyson, Grant, Bruno, Holyfield, V. Klistschko, Tua, Briggs (a lot of who are arguably better than any current HW champ)
Swap Grant for Mason. Tyson and Holyfield were past their best, so too was Tua a little bit. And Lewis never fought Ibeabuchi, who'd have been hard to avoid if he'd not lost the plot.

Mason, Bruno, Briggs and Klitschko were very good wins, and though Rahman doesn't rate quite as highly, Lewis' position is elevated by the way he beat him in their rematch.

Fury's not ATG material, but he's high on the interest list alongside Wilder and AJ, because we're all waiting for them to be exposed. Maybe one of them won't be. I'd have fancied Haye to beat them all 2:1 in his prime, and he's not an all-timer at heavy.

If we are talking British, I would put him 3rd after Fitzsimmons and Lewis, with Bruno and Haye taking #4&#5 spots. And Joshua wherever he lands after retiring, possibly at #2 depending on his longevity and success.
As for world, maybe #24 behind Lewis and before Vitali.
