Zhilei Zhang vs a "World Class" Heavyweight on DAZN

Haven't heard of this guy but his profile says he's a Freelance Combat Sports Reporter for @FightfulOnline and @FIGHTSPORTS.

Thoughts on who it could be? Won't be Joshua, Chisora v Whyte is being talked about for a few weeks after so not them either. So Miller? or have Matchroom got another heavyweight up their sleeves like co-promoting with Parker again?

That’s more an indication of the level of competition he’s been fighting, but Zhang had been near an opponent befitting his aspirations a few days prior when he posed for photos next to Joshua at a press conference for the DAZN streaming app.
Unless they signed Zhang :-?

So a 35 year old prospect is ready for a World class opposition?

Maybe Izu Ugonoh. He said recently that he aims into cooperation with Hearn.

Nice thinking. Would be a good challenge for them both I think. Could be a good scrap.

Credit to Zhang if he finally steps up a bit and stops can crushing. Ugonoh would be a fine opponent. Dimitrenko or Helenius would be good too. Not that any of these guys are "world class".

Carlos Toro is reliable HOWEVER this is actually from a press release. It'll be a Hearn co-promotion in Monaco. He'll face someone garbage, maybe Fujimoto I guess, then we rid ourselves of one Asian Heavyweight who doesn't want a challenge

Currently, Zhang is ranked #6 by the WBO.

1. Alexander Povetkin
2. Dillian Whyte
3. Jarrell Miller
4. Tom Schwarz
5. Dominic Breazeale
6. Zhilei Zhang
7. Kyotaro Fujimoto
8. Bryant Jennings
9. Agit Kabayel
10. Tyrone Spong
11. Otto Wallin
12. Junior Fa
13. Dereck Chisora
14. Ebenezer Tetteh
15. Ali Eren Demirezen

I think mostly anybody from #7 down could be a plausible opponent. But it feels like Kyotaro Fujimoto is the sort of obvious frontrunner.

Having seen Zhang twice on YouTube, I didn't see much in him to be fair.
He gets beat by anyone in the boxrec #20 IMO.
World class my arse.
35 and slow as dough. Be a good knock over for Joyce to boost him up the lists. Other than that, he is a waste of time and money.

And Zhang fights on Friday, which means both would have had warm ups. Kyotaro fought a fornicating Super Middleweight, disgusting

The heavyweight division is at the point where this is actually the best we can hope from these kind of boxers. The winner would be at fringe top 20 level and the loser can drop down into domestic can-crushing again.

Btw, I'm seeing a slightly different ranking released. Doesn't change much but Jennings and Miller are the notable differences:
1 Alexander Povetkin
2 Dillian Whyte
3 Bryant Jennings
4 Tom Schwarz (Int-Cont)
5 Jarrell Miller
6 Zhilei Zhang (Oriental)
7 Kyotaro Fujimoto (Asia-Pacific)
8 Tyrone Spong
9 Dominic Breazeale
10 Agit Kabayel
11 Otto Wallin
12 Junior Fa (Oriental Int)
13 Dereck Chisora
14 Ebenezer Tetteh
15 Ali Eren Demirezen

If it was Fujimoto they would fight in Japan i think, i doubt it makes sense to make a fight of Japanese and Chinese in Monaco. Fujimoto is quite big in Japan isnt he?

Fujimoto's last fight, an OPBF/WBO Asia Pacific title fight wasn't even the chief support bout on a recent car, and at best is getting edited tape delay footage...so noooo not really

I see, thanks. Then, i dont get why there is so much hype around him and why he's ranked so high, he is a small HW he have beaten no one and lost to Haumono. He is more than likely outside the top 100

You are right, both him and Joshua met Camarelli in the finals-)

Yeah. This is a valid reason why Fujimoto is not out of the running. They'd both fight bums at nearly the same time frame, and then meet-up.

However, I'd still consider the possibility that it could be Wallin, Spong, or Fa. Hopefully it's not Tetteh or Demirezen; because that is pathetically not worth making a press release over.

Let's hope that they actually get someone even modestly considered world class. Ideally, I'd like to see Zhang legitimately tested by someone like a Bryant Jennings but I doubt whether they throw him that deep. But, at this point, I'd be willing to accept anyone in the top 30. So a Johann Dehaupas, a Gerald Washington or an Artur Szpilka would do. Even a Travis Kauffman or Chazz Witherspoon.

It's not going to be Szpilka because he is scheduled to fight Wach 10 November. Jennings and Duhaupas beat the Chinese, the rest i think would lost.

I haven't seen any of these Chinese Heavyweights fight a real test so it'll be interesting regardless of whether Zhang is a complete bust or not. Which I expect he will be.
