“To make sure that happened, I agreed to sponsor the testing,” Conte said about him choosing to sponsor the cost of the VADA testing for he Saunders vs. Andrade fight. “The performance enhancing substances they [WADA] test for is very limited. Yes, methylsynephine [oxilofrine]; people know this as ephedrine or ephedra. But years ago there was a product called, ‘Rip Fuel’ by Twin Lab that was very popular, and of course as a weight loss product. This is a very powerful and potent substance, tenfold more powerful than clenbuterol. So, Billy Joe Saunders saying Canelo is taking this is that’s like baby food and this is stake. So what he was taking opens up the air passageways. It was an inhaler he was using. It’s a central nervous system stimulant. It gives you tremendous energy. It increases speed, and increases power. It cuts weight. This is a boxer’s dream drug. So he was using something very potent on fight night, and this is a prohibitive substance,” Conte said. @boxingnews 24

Wow this is just crazy stuff! You can't look s.hity against a guy like Artur Akavov and like FMJ against Lemieux without a little help.

Using Pryor's little black bottle sounds a lot easier.

If he was using it between rounds THEN I'd have a problem with it

What don't people understand....

He used a nasel spray, I don't know... Maybe BJS has a cold :maybe: the nasel spray isn't illegal and can be used by anyone and everyone.

Apparently this nasel spray may help with your endurance. So it is rightly banned and you can't use it in competition.

You can use it out of competition, athletes can get ill too just like us normal folk. But not in competition as it aids your endurance.

So as long as this isn't being used between rounds or in competition what's the issue?

Beet juice or beetroot juice improves athletes performances by up to 17% during studies.

I ran my first marathon aided by this. Drank a pint of the stuff a day for 2 weeks and had the last drink an hour before the race

And it's perfectly legal. It just tastes like soil :KO:

Conte: "“The bottom line is this – he signed an agreement to abide by the VADA rules,” ..“He knew and the list was there, and it was on it. And he was taking it, and he continued to take it, and he got busted. OK? So he violated that agreement. That much we know. What’s gonna happen, and are they gonna fine him or what’s gonna happen, that’s yet to be determined..."

He could continue to take this spray and it will do absolutely zero to benefit him in the fight if he doesn't take it on the day of the competition.

As I've said before, the benefits to his stamina are long gone within a few hours.

That's why it isn't banned out of competition

Many medications are banned during competition but not during 'everyday life'

sportsmen need medication for coughs/colds/asthma/headaches etc the same as any other human.

many medications for everyday issues contain substances that are banned on the day of competition. every drug has a 'half life' and a mode of dismissal from the human body (via kidneys/liver etc)

if you need medication for asthma ie ventolin... (salbutamol etc) then its fair to say that the relief of the inhaler may last tens of minutes/hours. the eradication from the body may take hours/days. these figures are all proven facts.

its unfair to deny asthmatics the opportunity to become professional sportsmen so therefore rules are in place. if you puffed on your ventolin inhaler before the first bell and between rounds you would gain an advantage potentially over your opponent.....if you had puffed on it the day before there will be no advantage come fight night.

therefore........it would be banned during competition but not in the build up.

BJS had taken some sort of nasal spray/decongestant (im led to believe) whilst in between fights. it would be illegal on fight night, but not in everyday life.

hope this clears things up.

These can also be used as a masking agent. Seems you need to take your own advice.

By the way, it does make sense that Saunders was losing to Akavov and goes razor close against Eubank Jr. and then goes on to dominate Lemiuex. Very likely he's been roiding.

@kilsby..above line of argument is IRRELEVANT...the agreement was sighed with VADA. My understanding is that VADA doesn't differentiate between "in/out of competition". The boxer whoever he might be is in breach of the agreement he's signed..and that's what counts...I guess there might be attenuating circumstances, let's wait and see what Massachusetts State Athletic Commission has to say...

Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell, the two fastest sprinters in the world this year, have both tested positive for the banned amphetamine oxilofrine. Both have insisted they are not cheats. Here's our guide to the banned substance.
What is oxilofrine?

Oxilofrine is a stimulant of the amphetamine class that was developed to treat hypotension (low blood pressure) in people who do not respond to conventional treatment. Oxilofrine is the prescription name for methylsynephrine, hydroxyephrine and oxyephrine. It is not widely used in the UK and is not a licensed drug in the US. Some firms use oxilofrine, in the form of synephrine, in so-called sports nutritional supplements as it is thought to allow people to burn fat faster and lose weight. Synephrine is a natural component of Citrus aurantium, otherwise known as bitter orange, but it can also be synthesised or extracted from plant sources.
What are its effects?

Oxilofrine is thought to increase adrenaline production, boosting endurance, focus, alertness and heart rate and increasing oxygenation of the blood.

Yup these two also tried to decongest their noses. Let's blame it on that nose decongestant.

The key line for me,

"The performance enhancing substances they [WADA] test for is very limited"

I suppose most experienced fighters (and their teams) are aware of all the possible stimulants they can get away with legally and the ones they can't.

I can also imagine that nasal sprays would be an enormous help with breathing (plus the rest). So this case could be of great interest to many boxers. And whatever happened to good old fashioned smelling salts?

BTW did we ever find out what was hurriedly popped into Canelo's mouth immediately after his weigh in with GGG?

Well that's a ludicrous agreement by VADA....

It basically says you can never get ill..... EVER!!

Not in competition or out of competition.... EVER!

Because if you do and have any type of medication whatever your a drug cheat -period!

Even if it's for a cold and your not competing.

Way to go VADA

You basically have to be a robot not to fail a test at some point.

Now roll up, roll up.... All athletes must sign this agreement :yay:
