Are there 4 ropes around a boxing ring?

This question has bothered me greatly for several years now. Wrestling has only three i think, so why should boxing be any different?

I think wrestling should have four ropes. It'd stop combatants leaving the ring during the fight. Boxing doesn't need this in its sport.

I remember the amateur days of 3 ropes. They were too far apart and the possibility of someone geting knocked through them greater.

I can only assume it's to stop boxiers falling through, or being knocked over the ropes and injuring themselves. In WWE wrestling this isn't a concern because the fight isn't confined to the ring, and high-flying moves over the ropes are what the audience likes to see.
