The Year in Boxing: How Would Rate 2018 Overall?

My opinion? Crap year. There were a few boxers that wanted to challenge themselves and fight the best out there but for the most part, nothing happened, nothing but resume masturbation. The sports biggest fight was clearly fixed for yet a second time. HBO even had enough of it so they hightailed it out of town and stopped carrying the sport. To me, it's depressing. 2017 was such a strong year with so many interesting battles and this year just fell flat on it's face in my opinion.
I personally think that technology is going to negatively affect this sport. Streaming is going to be great for the avid boxing fans but no casual boxing fan is going to work that hard to see a fight that they are mildly interested in. Less marketing and advertising on mainstream media will mean that less people even know about fights much less how to find them online.
Awful Year.

I agree with that Streaming will mostly benefit the hardcore fans, then again it’s the hardcore fans that complain about costs and end up illegally streaming. Good thing is that ESPN and DAZN apps show other sports, bit for casual fans that may tune in from time to time, we still need free boxing. Whether its ITV, Free Sports, Channel 5, DAVE.. or FOX, NBC, ESPN, CBS? in the US, (sorry I don’t know much about US free networks)..
I don’t think it’s been a bad year. Still seen some good fights. Good fights on paper and good fights on TV.

The year has already been pretty good and it can become even better. The WBSS, Lomachenko-Linares, Canelo-Golovkin 2, Joshua-Povetkin, Wilder-Ortiz, good stuff at the welterweights, etc. Fury-Wilder is up next soon.

Isn't there a word that fits in between great and mediocre?
Won't vote until we see what happens with Wilder and Fury.

You can bet that this fight doesn’t happen. I don’t know what it will ultimately be for a cause of it but this fight is not going to happen. Fury will find a way out. Guaranteed.

IF it happens it may be the first PPV I purchase in many years, but I wouldn't arrange to go to LA to see it even if I could afford it and had the time, for the reason you gave.
