I heard Strickland held it, and looks like Laight's recently surpassed him, though Strickland has more fights in total (which I think Laight wants to beat)

Though with Strickland fighting under other names, maybe not.

Thought he retired at 300 a few months back? Is he coming back? It’ll take him a few years to rack up as many as Strickland. Would he be licensed for it?

Nothing against the lad who is hopefully earning a few quid, but to get to 300 fights and losing 290 of them then somebody somewhere is taking the piss out of people buying tickets - usually the friends and family of some 2-0 kid who is never going to get to area title level.

You should know that doing something on fight night against someone you aren't familiar with is a lot different from learning in the gym against guys you are used to.

That's a fair point.

I still think that this is a peculiar practice that seems specific to boxing (eg. Man Utd reserves play Liverpool reserves - players of similar or better ability with both sides trying to win).

I almost didn't post as I didn't was this to come across as a dig at the journeymen boxers, which it isn't. I know that they are probably all much better than their records suggest.

I think it's fair to have a dig at the game but I'm defensive of the fighters

They get rounds in on a proper event. Big difference between a crowd and the gym. Laight was only stopped 5 times, so he always gave young fighters rounds. You learn less from blasting out guys in one or two rounds than having to go 6- Kris did that for them time and again.

I think you can get different levels of ‘journeyman’.

I always prefer the Warburtons, Fidoes or a Prime Ambler who gave it a go and could spring the upset.

He had a son at the beginning of the year and he’s enjoying that.

Ambler has fought them all and almost always gone the distance, Robin Reid, Matthew Barney, Tony Bellew, Paul Smith, Martin Murray, Liam Williams, Kerry Hope, Rocky Fielding and there is def a good few more who were British Champs.
I remember he was stopped a few times of late, against lesser opposition, which is prob an indication of things catching up with him.
Actually Laight got to 300 doing a lot of 4x2's against debutants, getting to 100 fighting as a journeyman against champions is a different kettle of fish
