All depends if you’re any good or not promotors are loathe to take any risks especially if the boxer is a big ticket seller and while ticket sales are good promotor will continue using journeymen untill punters get wise to it and ticket sales decline

Lee mcgregor just won the commenwealth title in his fifth fight , joy Joyce done it in 4, there is some fighters 15-0 still treading water . Every boxer different

I know but it’s a ‘how long is a piece of string’ question

yeh fair enough, but not everyone who comes on here knows this kind of thing, myself included a lot of the time.

I just come here for knowledgeable people to potentially have an input thats all.

I get its probably obvious to most though

Callum smith only needed a few but his big brother needed 21

Boxers anywhere above 10-0 still fighting journeyman don't sit right with me. They served their apprenticeship now they need to get off social media letting everyone know they are a undefeated pro and go test themselves

A lot depends on age at times youd not necesarily throw a 18/19 yr old young lad in to quick (obv unless there exceptional)

figting ppl like a kris laight or johnny greaves can be invauable early on ...if you make a mistake theyll let you know

If your older 27/28 then u dont have the time to play with and have to get going quick

a lot of it depends on a fighters amateur pedigree. if you have had only 5 amateur fights and turn pro you will need to hone your skills against a lot more journeymen than someone who had 80 amateur fights.

Seems a fair question to me, we've all seen fighters padding their records with easy knockover jobs only to then struggle when gifted a title shot because they haven't been stepped up through the levels earlier on in their careers.

Obviously though it depends on the boxer, but what is anyone gaining from still facing guys with losing records after they've had say ten fights?

Classic example watched a kid called Charlie Schofield go to 15 - 0 against a 0 - 3 novice other week and got knocked down in the process , always seem to think Steve Wood over does it with journeyman bouts . I'd be amazed when Charlie eventually steps up he does not get chinned.

I remember a lad jack perry and he got to sumit like 19/20 - 0 all 4 rounders and agaisnt journeymen

Yeah I remember him well ended up he couldn’t sell a ticket so he packed up

there's a bigger issue here. because of the routine we're now in where a show consists of lcoal novices fighting losing journeymen virtually the only people attending are the fans of the boxers - not of boxing. so when the local lads give up boxing dies for a few years.
