Former Australian welterweight champion Johnny Tapp passed away on 19/09/2018, born 6/5/1938, his funeral was at Mt Gravatt cemetery Brisbane on 26/09/2018.

I didn't know Johnny Tapp was also an amateur champion but as his first pro fight was a main event it would not surprise.

I remember Johnny, at the races as a bookies penciller. At least I think it was JT :maybe: . I read his obit this morning. Didn't know Arthur Clarke was his cousin. Small world sometimes

Had a crack at the Australian title but was stopped by Gary Cowburn.

Johnny Tapp won the Australian Welterweight title on 14/04/1960 when he knocked out Sydney boxer Brian Sheehan in round twelve, he lost it to Gary Cowburn on 30/06/1961 when he was stopped in round thirteen, both these fights were at Brisbane Festival Hall.

If you mean the race caller they are two different people. The race caller is 77 yers old and still alive.
