Canelo has several solid opponents to fight at middleweight, but admits he's not completely sure of going back down in victory.

"For now I want to win the title at 168 pounds, but afterwards I'll see how I feel [at the weight], I'll see if I'm going to stay there or what else we're going to do - but what I want is to be among the only 10 Mexicans who have won three different titles in different divisions and that is my goal," Canelo said.

"I've always said it, that after beating Golovkin the second stage [of my career] will come, and I hope it's as good as the first. I think I had a great first stage and the second one comes with many surprises, facing fighters with whom you can have a big event.

"There are important fighters with whom you can make good fight combinations. I just beat the one who was supposed to be the best at 160 pounds, you have to look for another challenge."

Canelo says the upcoming fight with Fielding will be a very big moment for his career.

"For me it's a pride to fight where big boxers like Muhammad Ali did, but I do not want to compare myself with anyone, I just want to make my own story. I respect each one of those boxers who fought in that place, but I want to be better than them, and for that I must make my own story. I admire each one of them and being there, where the biggest ones were, fill me with pride," Canelo said.

"It is very important for my career to present myself in one of the most important places in boxing, where there have been great champions, and I always like to have challenges."

To be fair, Rocky Fielding is definitely a top-ten super-middleweight (as rated by The RING, ESPN, BoxRec and TBRB).

The Brit’s victory over Tyron Zeuge is at least on a par or even better than any of the recent wins achieved by the likes of Jesse Hart, David Benavidez and Gilberto Ramirez. I’m not saying that Fielding is definitely as good as those guys, but his recent form against decent opposition is.

Is Rocky Fielding’s resume at 168lbs really much worse than Chris Eubank Jr’s? I’d argue not.

Therefore, Canelo’s first bout at the fully-fledged 168lbs limit against an opponent like Rocky Fielding should be regarded as a decent one.

In terms of Canelo’s chances of achieving long-term success at 168lbs, you could argue that George Groves and James DeGale are both well within the final stages of their careers and are ready for the taking.

It’s clear that Callum Smith and Jose Uzcategui are both capable of posing a real threat to Canelo, but I wouldn’t dismiss Alvarez’s chances against the likes of unknown quantities like Jesse Hart, David Benavidez and Gilberto Ramirez, who I will assume are very beatable until they score a victory over world-class opposition.

Canelo’s lack of height against very tall skilfully-competent mobile super-middleweights would be a significant stylistic obstacle for the Mexican to overcome, but similarly, none of the top dogs at 168lbs has faced anyone anywhere near as experienced, as accomplished, as durable or as short as the current middleweight RING champion.

If he stays at 168, fight against Eubank would be exciting , but IMO he will go down to 160 for Jacobs - Derevyanchenko winner and GGG 3

Andrade is less dangerous, so more likely. Also, WBO doesn't have same day weigh-in, which is another plus for Canelo.

he's too short for 168. might even struggle against this guy. some great fights to be made at middle, including the trilogy.

Better fights at MW for him than SMW. Thing is. He’s guaranteed $27m per fight on his deal with DAZN. He doesn’t need to rely on PPV sales to boost his earning.
