Any thoughts and opinions on this weekend's fight?

Just fishing really, hoping that someone will confirm that Sinitsin isn't a fighter totally on the slide, and that we could be in for an interesting little fight for the improved Docherty.

I think Docherty will win, I saw Sinistin capture the belt in his fight with Djelti and in my opinion, Djelti was winning the fight when he just seemed to run out of gas. I don't think Djelti has packed it in and I do hope the winner fights him because he was such a long reigning champ.

Now, Djelti was dissapointing in the fight before that (vs Willie Limond's last televised opponent). I thought he was losing the fight before the KO. This might say something about Sinistin because the guy who Willie Limond beat wasn't any great shakes yet he was beating a guy who Sinistin had a struggle against.

Having said that I think Djelti was in better shape and more focused for the Sinistin bout.

However, basing it entirely on this principle, Docherty must start as a favourite. Its a good match though, Sinistin WON the European belt and that achievement alone must be respected.

Djelti is retired and at the age of 45 I dont see him coming back.

Fair enough, didn't here him announce it.

He retired after the Sinitsin fight but came back and had 1 fight in his hometown as a farewell fight. I think the money from the event went to charity.

Just looked at his record, Djelti had a very good 2000-01 in England winning 4 IBO fights. Was he a house fighter for Ringside back then or just a stubborn frenchman that didnt want to lose when he was surpose to?

Came over and looked the business repeatedly. Djelti is a good fighter.

The Russian might be the favorite here, if it wasn't in Docherty's backyard.
He's got an excellent record of winning away from home.
Outside of Hatton, he's the only man to have knocked out tough Dane Pederson.

Good chance of an upset...

The way I remember it (which is no guideline, in truth) Sinitsin looked pretty tough against Djelti, but not the most intelligent fighter out there.

Docherty can out-smart him I reckon.

Looks a cracker this. My hearts says Docherty MD but my head is not so sure. Sinitsin is getting on a bit but has mixed in some decent company and can throw a left hook if I'm thinking of the same chav. Bookies can't split em. 5/6 the pair.

Can't make a case for Docherty at all and reckon Boris wins easily on points as long as the judges don't mess him up.

Yes I agree - it is not a big deal....but I bet individuals would jump on the 'racism' angle if someone used a similarly slang term to talk about anyone non-white.

Why is there one rule for whites (IE you can say anything you want) and anothre for non-whites (IE if you say anything even vaguely derogatory you get slaughtered.)

Hmmm, yes, well, getting swiftly back to the boxing I just give Sinitsin the edge over Docherty but actually think he'll post a stoppage over the seriously improved Craig.

Sinitisin won't have any problem travelling and boxing in front of a partisan crowd. However, it should give Docherty the sort of lift needed in a tough fight to perfom to his best.

None of our Superfeathers have looked Boris' way and give Craig credit for taking him on for another genuine title affair (in addition to Docherty's commonwealth crown).

But loyalty aside, Boris by stoppage.

I Just watched the Fight, right man won. But have to say it wasn't much of a match, Think the occasion may have got to Docherty a bit.

I agree with Topper123, it was not a very good fight to watch but by no means the worse I've seen. I just got the feeling that the occasion may have got to Craig a little, he just seemed to be missing that 'spark' which you would expect to see from a fighter challenging for the European Title.

The right man won.

I was expacting Craig to up the pace after about 5/6 rounds and throw more combinations and to be more agressive, put the older Champ under pressure etc, maybe the cut eye was a factor? And the Russian was to be fair a tricky customer who knew exactly what he was doing.

I thought it was a good fight. I'd much rather watch a long fight between two guys who are there to win than the boring blowouts we'll be getting in the next couple of weeks with Sports Network.

I have to say Watt's assessment of the fight and of what Docherty should do was spot on. Craig didn't use any of his advantages, he let the aging Russian dictate the pace - Whilst the Russian has got decent power he wasn't able to hurt Docherty at any stage, so I would have liked to have seen Craig go gun-ho at the start and try to outwork and outlast the champion.

The right man won - I scored it to him by 5, Craig though showed he can be competitve at this level and I think barring cuts can beat Sinistin.

Damn i missed this fight, forgot about it and went straight to bed after the appalling display by Wolves at Notts Forest I picked Sinitsin by UD on the Predictions league though, i would like to see Docherty get in with Alex Arthur as some stagein a good all Scottish battle.

I enjoyed the fight for the most part, but Boris should have had points deducted for his spoling tactics in the last quarter of the fight. Docherty tried his best against a very competent and solid European champion. I haven't noticed any of our Superfeathers chomping at the bit to face Sinitsin.

No major complaints about the result, but again, the referee should have taken points from the champion.

I was always concerend about Dochertys tendency to cut. he reminds me a little of Hatton in that respect. it might be worth Tommy Gilmour having a word with the guy who sorted Hattons brows to check this out. Disappointed not to see another Scot winning some honours. Fair credit to Sinitsin though, coming to defend his title in the guys own backyard.

anyways word up here is that Docherty and Gilmour are pressing for a rematch. the offer to Snitsin is that for a rematch at the same venue in February next year, he will receive agreater purse and if he should beat Docherty again Gilmour is going to guarantee him a world title shot against IBO champion Cassius Baloyi due tot he fact that Gilmour has promotional links with Baloyi’s management.

Of course this would mean a fight against him if Docherty won the rematch too presumably. In the meantime, until this is confirmed the plan is for Craig to continue to defend his commonwealth title

Thanks for that Neil - Fair play to Tommy Gilmour if he gets a rematch in Scotland that would be great, the option of Baloyi would also be an attractive one.

Clinton Woods' team have done well to secure yet another eliminator, but if Gilmour gets the rematch (and Baloyi after win, lose or draw) that would be fantastic for Craig.

I also agree about his cut problem (still think cuts could cost Hatton also), Craig needs to see a specialist - my concern is that he might be a "sweller" also.
