good fighters you used to like

but are totally pissed off with hearing about.

I was thinking aobut how my attitude to various fighters has changed over the past months and these really are fighters who are getting put in P4P lists or stated as all time greats, Im sick of hearing about em

1. Pacquio - while a good fighter some have already got him in the all time great featherewight lists what a joke. Beating a faded Barerra and just getintg a draw DOES NOT make him comparable to the likes of Azumah, Shanchez, Pep and sandler etc.

2. Vitali K: While liking him this aura some poeple seem to think he has is totally farcical, a decent champ but f.f.s. not ina all time list, not even close.

3. Miguel Cotto, loved him, skillful great fighter but he hasnt fought above hattons level yet, yes it all looks to be there but come on keep your feet on the ground. To put him in a p4p list is farcical at present.

Any moro for anymore. and yes I realise a lot of people are gonna say Calzaghe and Hatton was looking for a different angle here as I used to love these guys, now due to the opinions of others being rammed down your throat I cant wait for 'em to stumble.

anyone else got any thoughts?

Tarver.

Not sure if he's a great fighter but he's certainly not as good as he thinks he is and the losers who have him P4P top 3 are wildly delusional.

Trinidad.

Beat a welterweight. Looked good doing it. Fair play and all but this isn't a second coming of biblical proportions

Felix Sturm.

Squeaked a narrow result out of a fat DLH who looked worse than he had ever done before. Then beat a light middleweight.

Holyfield.

Just sick of hearing his 'retire undisputed champ' dream. I hate to see a man break himself.

Tszyu.

CANNOT be justified as top 10 PFP in my book. Grand, he used to be a very good fighter, but the jury's out on him until we see how such a long lay-off affects him.

Sick and tired of people glossing over Johnny Nelson at world level

Good points. The only thing I would say is Cotto beat Pinto who is far more dangerous than anyone Hatton has faced.

Posted: 12 Oct 2004, 09:02
by J
you think so?
i dont I thought pinto was awful in the Cotto fight, open as all hell, slow looping arced punches that were easy to block and see coming. Apart from Augustus he hasnt fought anyone and I felt the only reason he looked dangerous to me was his lack of exposiure so no-one knew how good / bad he was.

In my view he looked technically pretty average. Maybe Cotto was that good he made him look so but to me Pinto didnt telegraph his punches, he mailed em second class (at xmas.)

Cotto did a job on Cesar Bazan and Victoriano Sosa, he beat a puncher in Pinto convincingly and also beat Lovemore N'dou...i would say his level of opposition has been slightly better than Hatton considering he has had about half as many fights.

not getting into this discussion cos every frgggin thread turns into a pro cotto anti hatton slating sesh which is becoming a tad tiresome.

lets see how it pans out. Sorry Steve not having a go at you, just bored of the constant comparison, exactly the reason why cotto is on my list

back to thread got any stevo you might want to vent your frustration over?

Calzaghe.

I even have trouble typing the name, let alone saying it. His career has become a total joke, and i for one am sick and tired of hearing about the bloke. Whether its people defending him or critisizing him, it doesn't matter. He's not even worth debating anymore.

I used to admire the way he'd done things. He cleaned out his domestic rivals, and i was sure he'd go on to do the same to his world rivals. Sadly the names Pudwill, McIntyre, Mkrtchian, and Thronberry are what he's settled for. And i'd rather i didn't hear anything about Joe again.

Calzaghe should just retire.

All he has amounted to is a paper title holder and he will never be any better.

We have seen the best of him.

The future at 168 is Jeff Lacy.

The thing that annoys me the most when it comes to mentioning fighters is the contradictions.

I don't like the pro-Eastman fans spouting off about Calzaghe's lack of a defining fight. Its getting that way with Witter and Hatton. NONE of them (so far) have beaten class.

I'm growing tired of all 4 names to be honest. I still don't mind Hatton because he geniunally seems frustrated with his lack of big fights - however Witter seems to be more focused on Ricky's career than his own. Calzaghe and Eastman don't give me the impression that they want a big fight.

It was like that with Williams and Harrison for a while, but Williams has now got on with things.

One big fight changes everything. Let's just hope that all these Brit fighters have a big fight in the next year just so the anti/pro threads are resolved...oh yeah, and actually find out whether they have what it takes or not.

As for fighters who I used to like...James Toney. Great fighter but cannot listen to the man anymore - I know that a lot of people like trash talk but personally it just bores me. Seems like a lack of class...which he has in abundance in the ring, none out of it.

Godd points Stu and agree, RC know what you are saying about RToney, it used to be funy now it seems he is believing his own hype, and definitely is overstepping the mark in some of latest actions.

I was convinced it was all tongue in cheek but now Im not so sure.

J, Vitali is the best at the moment. that´s the reason why there´s so much written about him but to say he belongs to an all-time-greatest-list is totally irrealistic. Here on boxrec i never saw such posts. i don´think that Vitali is overhyped here. i could name some of the overhyped.......

welcome back by the way you been quiet!!!?

was just an observation, I dont mind these fighter I think they are good but some of the descriptions of their status of late has been driving me nuts.

especially pacman, had a discussion the other day where someone reckoned he was one of the top 3 feathers of all time, f.f.s. I nearly blew a gasket

Another fighter who I am finding annoying is Kevin Mitchell, not so much him personally - but he is getting too much attention to soon. We shouldn't be over critical of him at this age and his management team shouldn't be giving him this much televised exposure.

One of the last young "precious talents" we had given lots of exposure fighting bums was Georgie Smith - look what happend there.

Yeah, Eastman. After the Joppy fight, he was the brave-but-unlucky hero. But since then he's not done anything to merit continued support.
