At 175lbs, Michael Spinks wins. At 200lbs or heavier, Oleksandr Usyk emerges victorious. The winner of both scenarios gains a decision victory, since neither guy are considered murderous punchers.

A close matchup. Two extremely skillful boxers. Spinks was even a boxer-puncher. Usyk seems to be more polished though, what would have probably been a decisive factor. I slightly lean towards the Ukrainian.

I don't think I'd pick anyone besides Holyfield to beat Spinks at cruiserweight.

fair enough, but there was no cruiserweight back then? i need to brush up on spinks, on paper he looks to be one of the best ever light heavies.

Maybe not at 200....but at Lt Heavy The Spinks Jinx was a big puncher. And he did knock out Cooney at Heavyweight.

Michael Spinks’ record at 175lbs and below was 27 victories, 19 by way of KO, with ten of those stoppages scored after the halfway point of the fight, which strongly suggests that the ‘Jinx’ carried out power to hurt most of his opponents, to the point that he would eventually wear them down.

He definitely wasn’t a murderous puncher at 175lbs and rarely scored one-punch type KO's.

I didn’t realize one punch KOs were the only way to be a big puncher.

Spinks May have hurt his opponents and stopped them through accumulation and accuracy.....but he still hurt and stopped a lot of good opponents at 175.

I really don’t think we’re disagreeing here. I said that Michael Spinks wasn’t a murderous puncher. I didn’t claim that he was feather-fisted.

Only a third of Spinks’ 27 victories resulted from a KO being scored during the first half of their respective bouts.

The 'Jinx' was effective and carried enough power in his shots to hurt most guys, but he wasn't a "big" puncher.

Even dripping water eventually wears away stone, which is kind of analogous as to how Michael Spinks managed to stop his opponents.

I still think we are disagreeing at least a little. Usyk, for example, overwhelmed Huck and was just landing a torrent of blows to get the stoppage. That is what I would call not a “big” puncher.

But Spinks would land hard, damaging blows throughout a fight that I would still label “big” punches. He might not have had APlus level one punch power (although Marvin Johnson might disagree) but the later round punches he landed to stop guys like Johnny Davis, Jerry Celestine or
Yaqui Lopez looked pretty “big” to me.
