Why Mikey Garcia Has No Shot Against Errol Spence by Frank Lotierzo

The three biggest fights that could be made in boxing are Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder, with the undisputed heavyweight title on the line; Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence, since both hold a title at welterweight and a clash between them would be epic; and Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Mikey Garcia. But with the way fighters are represented today on different networks, it’s hard to make the bouts that should be made. Garcia-Lomachenko would be a blockbuster. The problem is Lomachenko is with promoter Bob Arum, who used to promote Garcia until Garcia sued him and left. Now Garcia is a PBC fighter and Arum will not work with Garcia. So Garcia may fight IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence, 24-0 (21), instead. And by suggesting that, Garcia is doing what Floyd Mayweather did better than any fighter: starve the public for the fight they want so they want it even more.

He has a shot, just unlikely. Why fight Loma when beating Spence will give you huge respect. Spence is now becoming overrated to where his flaws are being overlooked.

If this fight occurs Spence is going to beat the hell out of Mikey and I"m a huge Mikey fan. A lot of people are focusing mainly on the size disparity between the two fighters as the main factor in the fight but that is where I think people are wrong. They also do this when discuss Spence's potential future match up with Terrance Crawford. Spence does in fact have a size and strength advantage over Mikey but it is his boxing skills that I feel are incredibly underrated and will play the biggest factor in defeating Mikey. Spence ability to fight inside and at range, his accuracy and ability to time his shots, his punch variety to the head and body, his defense and his fight IQ will be too much for Mikey who is fantastically fundamentally but he just does not have enough in his tool box to trouble Spence. And I did not even go into the punching power disparity.
