Badou Jack vs. Marcus Browne - January 19, 2019

Badou Jack and Marcus Browne are in deep negotiations toward an early 2019 light heavyweight fight, industry sources told The Ring.

Each fighter has verbally agreed to the fight, but there are still major dealpoints to iron out. The bout would pit two 175-pounders rated in The Ring’s top 10 and would likely land on Showtime. One possibility is the pay-per-view undercard of Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner slated for January 19 in Las Vegas.

Jack-Browne could also land on another date in January or February, but all sides involved are focused on hammering out a deal.

Jack (22-1-3, 13 knockouts) is anxious to jump back in the ring. The Ring’s No. 4 light heavyweight competed only once in 2018, a majority draw with lineal champion Adonis Stevenson that took place on May 19 in Toronto. The 35-year-old has competed just twice at light heavyweight after a title reign at super middleweight, but he’s already made his mark.

The Swede punished Stevenson over the second half of their bout, and was disappointed to be held to a draw for the second time in three fights. Jack also fought James DeGale in a stalemate in January 2017; he came on late in that outing, too, dropping the Brit in the final round.

Browne (22-0, 16 KOs) has never faced a fighter the likes of Jack. The 27-year-old was slated to challenge then-light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev over the summer, but a domestic violence charge cost him the opportunity.

The Staten Island, New York, native is a southpaw who possesses good power. He’s knocked out fringe contenders like Seanie Monaghan and Thomas Williams on his way to a No. 9 rating in The Ring’s ratings.

Wow. Didn’t see this fight coming. Browne fûcked up a world title opportunity against Kovalev this year. But Jack is up there at LHW.

Would be a good fight.

Hopefully NOT another draw...

Two top PBC guys facing each other, like Badou Jack and Marcus Browne, is surely a really good thing.

Yes. Much better than a top PBC fighter taking on a lower-level B PBC fighter. Which is usually what we get.

Hard to predict. I can see Browne stopping Jack, but if he doesn't, I can see Jack wearing him down into a decision. A bit of a 50-50.

Badou Jack vs. Marcus Browne Close For Pacquiao-Broner PPV

A deal is close for two-division champion Badou Jack to face unbeaten southpaw Marcus Browne in a 175-pound undercard bout to a WBA “regular” welterweight title defense by Manny Pacquiao against four-division title-winner Adrien Broner on January 19 at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Showtime Pay-Per-View, according to a report from RingTV.com.

Earlier this month, Jack (22-1-2, 13 KOs) confirmed to BS.com a return “as early as January,” desiring to “be more active,” with “Sir” Marcus Browne (21-0, 16 KOs) being “a consideration.”

“It looks like my next fight won’t be against another champion,” said Jack, a 35-year-old nicknamed “The Ripper” who was born on Halloween in Sweden. “I want to be more active, fighting three or four times a year.”

Browne also expressed interest in fighting Jack to BS.com, having registered a combined five knockdowns over three straight stoppage wins during an 11-month period ending in January.

“[Jack’s] ahead of me, and I don’t wanna fight anybody who is behind me. If I’m what they claim I am in the boxing world, then he’s a person I should fight. [Jack] responded to me on Instagram saying he wanted to fight,” said the 6-foot-1½ Browne, whose 28th birthday was on November 10.

“He’s not busy, I’m not busy, and the champions have other fights. So I feel like I’m in a great position, and I’m waiting for Badou Jack to step up to the plate. I can’t wait to fight him and beat his ass. [Jack’s] performance against Stevenson was solid. I don’t really see anything special about him, but at the end of the day, he’s a two-time world champion and a solid name. I want to beat him before going after the champions in no particular order.”

Haven't seen anything to question, but I've not seen him much. This may be a good test.

Mopey looks aren't a terrific sign...I didn't see the Kalajfsal;d? fight, but I'll take your word. Like I said, I've had minimal exposure to him (saw monahagn fight), but what I saw seemed decent enough to watch him take the next level up. or not!

Marcus Browne won't be any trouble for Badou Jack; they're on different levels. Jack KO's him in the first Six Rounds in my opinion.

Definately a good fight between 2 non beltholders.. these are the kinda fights we need. Just as good as a world title fight.

Why not? Will be televised on Showtime PPV.

I’m thinking NoxBation would have picked it up by now.. they already picked up Alvarez-Kovalev.. maybe cuz that’s ESPN. Sometimes BN pick things up late..

I’m thinking with PBC’s new deal with ITV. I’m kinda hoping they pick it up. Fingers are crossed.

I was asking because I wasn't sure if the new deal with ITV kicks in then. Or is it a UK PPV?
