Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn reportedly been in talks with Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler to setup a mouth-watering fight between GGG and WBA Super World super middleweight Callum Smith (25-0, 18 KOs) for early 2019 in May in Anfield in Liverpool, England. Anfield is a large football stadium that seats 54,000+ fans, and Smith-GGG would very likely fill it to the brim. Golovkin vs. Smith could be a big money maker in 2019 for both fighters.
Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez recently mentioned the idea of GGG facing Callum Smith in 2019, but he didn’t seem to be in a hurry for that fight to take place. The fight that Sanchez is more interested for Golovkin’s next bout is against WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Rob Brant, who is coming off of a 12 round unanimous decision victory over Ryota Murata. from boxing news 24 site
It would be a HOF move for GGG but unfortunately I think Callum is too big and too young for GGG.

He‘s too big, that’s for sure. I don’t know how he makes SMW. I don’t see GGG at SMW either, he doesn’t seem big at MW

Yeah Callum would be big even at LHW. But who knows maybe GGG is cutting weight hard at 36 y/o. Abraham was a shorter guy than GGG and he was a decent fighter in tough smw era with top notch smw's like Ward, Froch, Dirrell and Kessler..

This is really old news and Abel Sanchez has also stated that he doesn't believe this fight will happen.
Abel didn’t sound too keen on prospect of GGG facing Callum Smith, because he claimed that Gennady is small middleweight and “
168lbs is a big stretch for him”.
This is despite Team GGG’s long-time boasts, whereby they persistently claimed that Golovkin was able to compete against and also beat the very best fighter's in their natural habitat, ranging from 154lbs to 175lbs. They also previously claimed that Gennady was even dominating cruiserweights in sparring.

Smith is enormous! He's so much bigger than Golovkin. Golovkin winning would be huge for his career and legacy. I'd say it's 50-50. Make no mistake, Groves has been past it since taking two hard losses in a row from Froch. It's a fight Golovkin can win, but the size difference is what makes me wonder.

The only thing which disappoints me is that we won't see Golovkin till May.

Brant is on GGG's radar. Jan or Feb.

A win over Callum Smith would almost guarantee a third fight vs Canelo for GGG probably at 168 lbs since Canelo is fighting Fielding for the WBA smw regular belt but I think GGG would bite off more than you can chew by fighting Callum. GGG could retire very well at this stage like Maidana did.
