David Price vs. Tom Little - 22 December 2018

For the third time running, British heavyweight David Price will feature on the under-card of a big-card heavyweight main event. Back in March of this year, Price took on Alexander Povetkin on the under-card of Anthony Joshua Vs. Joe Parker, and in September Price fought the unbeaten Sergiy Kuzmin on the under-card of AJ against Povetkin. On both occasions, Price was defeated inside the distance, even though he did have moments of success in both fights.

Now, having yet another ‘last shot’ Price will fight on the under-card of the Dillian Whyte-Dereck Chisora rematch set for The O2 on December 22. Price, 22-6(18) will face fellow British heavyweight Tom Little, 10-6(3). Might Price be able to bag himself a win this time, his first since back in December of 2017?

Little is no big puncher and the 31 year old is coming off two stoppage losses of his own – having been taken out by unbeaten hot prospect Filip Hrgovic in January and by Daniel Dubois in June of this year. On paper, and with all due respect, this is not anything like as dangerous an assignment as Price has been used to of late. But with Price, who knows what might happen if the likeable big man is caught on the chin? Little might look at this fight and, having no doubt seen tape of many of Price’s fights, his crushing losses included, take heart and confidence into the ring with him.

Little will know that if Price gets tired, or if he can hurt him early on, anything could happen on December 22. And how is Price’s arm, the one he injured in the corner retirement loss to Kuzmin just two months ago? If Price does get a win over Little it’s anybody’s guess what the 35 will opt to do then. Price might decide to go out with a win and retire.

It goes without saying that a loss to Little, a KO loss in particular, would finish Price’s career once and for all.

I don't think you necassarily have to be a puncher to KO Price as if he gets exhaused your winning by TKO anyway.

Anyone who can stick in there and has offence above a certain level then they are winning. Fortunately for Price I don't think Little is that.

Little needs to stay at David’s chest, however I think Price can keep him at bay with the jab before he detonates in rd 2 or 3 for the stoppage win.

price will have to be totally shot if he loses this, hes already beaten a lot of guys much better then little though tbf it was a while ago

but even in his losses hes been having moments against guys just levels and levels above little, and while not exactly looking comfy he did shutout sokolowski when he dropped back down to this level.

i think he should ko little without much trouble. mentally it could be easier to look at an opponent like this for him, because he knows hes already been in with far better

Yeh. That was a very mute performance. He then said he wanted to go 6 rounds.

I can't understand why he keeps going. He comes across a sensible type of guy and he can't need the money surely?

Confirmed

Price in must-win heavyweight showdown on O2 undercard on December 22

David Price is back in heavyweight action against Tom Little on the undercard of the Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora rematch, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Little has previously shared the ring with Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Filip Hrgovic and fast-rising heavyweight talent Daniel Dubois, who he took five rounds in June, and Price knows it is a must-win fight.

Price said: "This is a real fight. He's well schooled now and he's also as tough and game as they come. I can't go from fighting the likes of Alexander Povetkin and Sergey Kuzmin to fighting knock-over jobs because I need the threat in front of me.

Image

"I know Tom Little really well and he knows me. We've done lots of rounds of sparring and I've seen him improve a lot during that time. He's certainly closed the gap that was between us when we first started sparring.

"With the heavyweight division, there are big fights everywhere. There are so many big names around and they all need dance partners. There are massive opportunities for the winner of this fight on offer.

"What awaits the victor is part of what will make this a cracking fight. Tom has a couple of losses in his last couple of fights and so do I, so we're both fighting for our careers in this one."

Little, 31, is also on the back of two defeats but the Hatfield heavyweight believes he will come out on top in the pre-Christmas cracker.

Little said: "I'm delighted and privileged to be fighting on such a great card. This is a massive PPV show on a massive platform in Sky Sports. I'm fighting a huge name and it's a dream come true to be honest.

"Not to discredit David but I think his last couple of losses have taken a lot out of him and that will be the difference on the night. I think I'm mentally stronger than David, he's going to let his last couple of defeats get to him whereas I'm just eager to put them behind me and move on.

"I'm willing to go to the deep and dark places to get the win. I'm expecting a very rough fight, it's going to steal the show. One way or the other, this fight won't be going the distance."

David Price to target rematch with Sergey Kuzmin after beating Tom Little

David Price is refusing to overlook the challenge of Tom Little but admits he would love the chance to avenge his Sergey Kuzmin defeat.

Price withdrew after four rounds when he faced unbeaten Russian Kuzmin at Wembley in September - due to a bicep injury.

The towering Liverpudlian says his injury has healed and is now determined to beat Little and stay in the heavyweight mix.

"As much as Tom and I are genuinely friends and get along well, we'll put it all on the line on the night. It's going to be an exciting fight," said Price.

"I've had intensive physio on the bicep. I'm fortunate in that it wasn't a complete tear. It was something we were working on so I'm lucky that I'm able to start using it properly in time to fight again this year.

"The Kuzmin fight came in at late notice and things weren't ideal but that's gone now and I'm enjoying training. I'm looking forward to getting back into the ring and back to winning ways.

"It's all well and good fighting on big shows but we're in this sport to win and succeed. I've lost three of my last four and I want that winning feeling back.

"I'd love to fight Kuzmin again one day because I believe with proper preparation I could stand him on his head."

How many last chance fights has Pricey been in?

Little is barely British standard, easy win for Price.

He just needs a W after the last 2 LL’s.

I don’t mind this fight, but I do mind this card. There’s only three confirmed fights bar this one, the main event, Bellotti vs Walsh (a good fight) and Rosales vs Edwards (solid world title fight). Add that domestic level HW bout and this ain’t a PPV card yet.

Needs another two good fights for me, preferably Joe Joyce vs Carlos Takam should be one. If not, more rotten shite from Hearn.

I'm so bored with Price. He's got no heart left and no ambition. Quitting against Kuzmin was pathetic.

Buatsi vs Quinlan has been confirmed so that’s 5 so far. Still missing one good fight for me.
