If I would have to pick one legendary past middleweight to fight GGG, it would be James Toney, period!
So how GGG would deal with Toney's style ?

GGG would outwork him, be a good fight though.

Yeah that accurate piston jab and the footwork of GGG would give trouble to J.T.

GGG will outwork him in thrown shots and possibly won't land any significant one. Well prepared Toney would have outclassed him. Toney could fight in a telephone box and take no shots, he would have outlanded GGG and taken the decision.

The same way as Saul Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin would dominate him 70 to 80% of the time and in the end the judges give it to the other guy. Similar like Kovalev vs Ward, despite Kovalev isn't that good, Ward was even more rubbish, nevertheless they give the decision to Ward.
Well Canelo had some pretty good ducking&dodging waist moves. Anyway I still think GGG would be too strong for J.T.

The jab and the left hook of GGG would land and do some damages on JT.

Toney was a great fighter but he's really overrated at 160. Nunn was a great win, but he got smashed by tiberi and I thought Johnson edged him too.

I rank JT above Gerald McClellan, Collins, Eubank Sr and of course McCallum and Nunn.

That's not exactly the all time top 5.

James Toney defense skills will make Golovkin looks bad at the moments, but he will outwork Toney in a close fight imo

They were top mw's of the 90's in the same era with JT.

IMO the only mw that would make GGG looking bad is RJJr. Jones was a phenomenon in his prime.

McClellan and Nunn are the only guys you have mentioned who were prime at middleweight.
