Who deserves a world title opportunity despite being unranked?

I feel Tony Hirsch (23-6-2, 9 KO's) deserves a world title shot.

Nope, not at all. In 2017, he only had one fight, and it was against a corpse (boxrec rating = 0). In 2018, he only had one fight, and it was against a corpse (boxrec rating = 1). A one-armed man could potentially notch wins against that level of opposition. How do I know for sure that Tony Hirsch didn't get one of his arms amputated in 2016? Is he going to fight an opponent with a boxrec rating of at least 2 anytime soon?

Funny enough, this thread inspired me to look up a fighter I've not seen or heard from in a long time, Alexander Besputin. Holy hell, the dude is the first to stop Alan Sanchez. What a statement. I'm surprised no one is talking about this man.

My argument would be that Hirsch is on a 9-0, w/ 3 KO's streak. His most recent opponent (not a corpse) had only been stopped twice in 23 pro fights vs strong opposition. As a completely neutral fan, I sat ringside in Las Vegas and watched Hirsch beat up Wes Capper (who at the time was undefeated and being highly promoted). The fight was not as close as the judges scored it. Hirschs only career setbacks (years ago) was vs stiff opposition (examples: former world title challenger John Jackson, former world champion Dmitri Chudenov and Jason Estrada who retired 16-0, 14 KO's).

I get that Hirsch may not deserve a world title shot, but in my eyes he's definitely has earned himself a major fight.

Lmao.
Beating Wes Capper almost 4 years ago is your argument?
In his most recent fights Hirsch dealt a tomato can his 8th consecutive loss and stopped an opponent who is currently 2-12 with 10 losses by stoppage.
He hasn't stepped the ring with anyone who actually has a winning record since 2015.
Way to follow up that career defining win over Wes Capper

this actually makes me wonder....which boxers had the lowest boxrec rating/ranking when they won a world title (excluding fighters who were marked as inactive when they won)

i remember kirryl relikh was like 210 in the world when he fought burns and imo deserved the win

Pretty sure Jeff Horn hard a rating of 100 when he ‘beat’ Man Pac. But don’t know where he was ranked.

go to world title fights for years you can search via lineage. weights or sanctioing bodies. Not Boxrec ratings but IWBR.

WBA will give you the most laughs.

It's rare to find a new fighter that earns a shot. Nobody comes to mind but it would be someone done wrong by judges.
