Under the radar : Jason Welbourn's mission impossible ?

Not surprisingly this one has been completely overshadowed by the main event this Saturday in L.A.

Seems a mission impossible job, Jarrett Hurd looks very good. Welbourn in excellent forms with 5 wins on the spin and 2 British title wins over Langford at Middleweight..

Good luck to Jason and hope he makes the most of the unexpected opportunity. :box:

reality is its an awful mismatch, not really much to talk about in way of competivness or the fight being very interesting

good luck to him but reality is its the type of mismatch we hate on if we dont have a bit of sentiment with any of the fighters, i dont support these types of fights tbh

Realistically the promotion have booked him for a cheap support fight and he has taken it for what will probably be more than his current career earnings.
You can't blame him for taking the fight but its as close to a formality as a fight could be.

He’ll have done well to make it to the fourth. Terrible mismatch.

Poor old Wellborn will be in for a shellacking here. Similar to Cotto v Jennings, Rose v Andrade and Pavlik v Pickett.

As long as he gives it up for music and the free electric band I'll be happy man

Well it’s a dream fight for him, isn’t it? Even in these times of multiple belts only a tiny percentage of boxers ever get the opportunity to challenge for a legitimate world title...

Has touches of

Vargas-Clarke
Barrera - Wenton
Nunn-Ashley (with the drop in weight division)

Good luck to Welborn and hope he does himself proud and makes good money, but there is a massive Gulf in levels.

ya good for him, though im sure for every type of totally undeserving boxer in a sh!tty world title fight they could 'tell the grand kids about it ' and get well wishes from there hometown etc, not good overall though

There is a difference in levels, sure.
I still think it is a good opportunity for Jason. He has just done 12 rounds, he is having a late career bloom, and where else is he going to get a chance like this?
I'll be cheering him on.
He is a tough mofo, and I don't think he will make it that easy for Hurd in the early rounds. :box:

Good luck to him, but unfortunately he’s in for a beating.

Like Howard Clarke when he challenged for the light middleweight title , Jason is not up against an average champion. Hurd has already proved in beating Trout and Lara that he's got something a bit extra.

I don't give Welbourn a prayer.... Hurd is a lot better than Frankie Gavin, Liam Smith and Macklin... but if Jason does pull off the unthinkable a hope he gets all the credit in the world.

Hurd is top drawer, can't see this ending well for Jason. Can't see this going past 5 rounds to be honest.

Hurd is coming off shoulder surgery so he will take some time to get going and test things out. If he comes in looking for take welborn out asap then we could have another Barrera Lloyd situation

Good video from Showtime regarding Hurd and his build up to this title defence, seems a decent bloke.

Because of his accent I thought he said ‘Jason Welborn is an adorable guy’

He's no chance here. This is worse than Jennings v Cotto and Lockett v Pavlik :shame:

Apologies sir. I've just echoed your comment as I hadn't read before posting.

Totally agree.

I like Welborn but he boxed out his skin to win the British title and well done but he has no business being in the same ring as Hurd on Sat....
