Relationship between Promotor and Judges

Boxing was today once again marred by a decision that many are describing as a robberry. It has brought about this thread, but whatever your opinion on the fight was, put it to the side for now.

I would like to discuss the relationship between Promoter and Judge, and the whole process surrounding how judges are selected, what they are paid and how they get paid, what direct and indirect interests they have with promotional companies, and what sort of regulations and checks are in place to prevent possible cases of corruption from happening through biased scorecards.

I'm just an armchair fan with no connection to the sport other than the www and my set top box. There are many knowledgeable people on here, many well connected who hold positions within the sport, from fighters themselves, trainers, promoters, team members, friends and family, and probably even some judges among us?

The word robberry and corrupted get thrown around quite regularly in boxing. We know it has happened in thd past, the sport has history of it, so it is not surprising to hear.

I'd like to understand the whole process better, to try and understand if corruption of judges really could still be at stake in todays boxing world, and on what basis is it coming from.

Would appreciate any and all feedback on the matter.

Thanks

There's an old article from Thomas Hauser on Conflicts of Interest in Boxing
It was written a few years ago but the points within it (and many of the people) are still topical.

I recal that article, shines a light into very dark places and points us towards what most of the boxing world suspects, but largely overlooks.

It would be interesting if someone were to delve deep into this Alejandro Rochin, the judge who scored thefight 115 to 111 for Wilder. If every little detail could be checked to see where he might have been given perks and influencers etc. Was he flew over in first class, picked up in a limo, put up in a penthouse sweet, wined and dined like royalty, given 5 ringside seats (to flog), or maybe nothing as blatantly obvious as that, maybe there was a much more subtle back hander somehwere down the line, perhaps not even connected in anyway to the Fury Wilder fight of last night, maybr a fight or two ago he was perked, and essentially bought, there are a million ways it ciukd be done.

I'm not saying the man was corrupted, he could have made an honest mistake, round after round, it can happen, but if it were at all possible he could have been corruoted, it would be interesting to stick a private investigator on hus case to check every minute detail of this guys footsteps over the past year or so.

Just saying.

i posted similar on instagram/FB and in an above thread.

Ive seen boxing from the inside...the very inside. what other sport does the home team pick/pay/host/entertain/feed/wine and dine the officials BEFORE the event??

Its crooked, no other word for it.

Im a qualified judge (amateur). I only had fury losing 2 rounds (10-8 rounds in the 9th and 12th)

I had the 2nd and the 4th shared

Fury 116 - 112 Wilder

I dont like sharing rounds but it was hard to split them in those 2.

NO WAY DID FURY LOSE

2 OF THE CARDS WERE SCANDALOUS.....AND ONE WAS A BRIT !!!

Are the judges only corrupt if the fight goes the distance? Otherwise their redundant. We’ve seen some shocking cards turned in after stoppages too and their not really taken to explain themselves.

Where there is money to be made there’s corruption it’ll always be there.

Judges shouldn't be announced until fight night. Have a shortlist of like 10 and say WBC picks three an hour before fight.

Povetkin Vs AJ springs to mind. Blatant corruption there
