.....getting up.....

Watching Fury in the 12th the other morning in the early hours made me think of similar times when a fighter has 'phoenixed' and carried on.......sometimes coming back to win.

I dont mean an ordinary knock down, i mean a real sleeper, when their eyes have rolled and there is no chance of them beating the count..........until they do

what other examples are out there?

Even though it was called off, when George Groves beat the count in Froch 2 was remarkable. He was out cold for about 4 or 5 seconds then sprang back up to his feet in an instance.

I thought the way Fury looked "out" was similar to Groves in the second Froch fight, George was completely out and then seemed to wake up but by then the ref had already started waving it off, Fury was lucky he didn't have a more nervy ref that night.

George was scratching his ear with his foot!!

There are plenty of refs who would have stopped it and quite justifiably too.
However Fury proved the ref right.

I expected a concussive blow from the radio commentary and subsequent fall out... however, it was less than I was expecting. Kind of smashed him as he was already falling back. I think that fall took the decisive power out of it.

I haven’t watched it in a while but I recall being rather amazed when Monte Barrett got back up from Tua’s jaw breaking blow in the 12th and survived to win the fight. He went down incredibly heavily...

Was discussing this topic on twitter yesterday, never seen that mentioned, good shout, Groves did seem to wake up mid count

Ali against Frazier in their first fight is always the one that amazes me - the way Joe’s left hook just smashes Ali right on the jaw in the 15th round of a truly gruelling fight, Ali goes down like a felled tree but gets up almost immediately. Fvcking incredible.

someone started a similar thread in the boxing history section and i mentioned groves-froch 2 as well, looked totally out with his leg under him yet still actually gets to his feet to beat the count, though ref still waved it off

Foreman vs. Lyle.

The ultimate classic heavyweight war.

How foreman dragged himself up from the punch he didn't even see was unreal. Most other heavys would've went to sleep for quite a while, george stood up & totally destroyed lyle.

JMM vs PacMan.
I had a lot of money on JMM points - stilll feel cheated now.
I’m fact - I’m going back to the “robbery” thread with that one - was a scandal :brick:
Amazing how he got up and WON.

Cowdell one was good, (thanks for the vid), but the best comeback I ever saw - Kellly “The Ghost” Pavlik bs Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor.

What a fight indeed. One of the all time classic slugfests.

Yeah. This is why it was sad to see him shaking his head to his corner and staying down for the count vs Smith.
