Agreed. I thought he referred the fight extremely well and seems to be a good man.

I’ll :stop:

Hold your horses there. Jack “The Butcher” Reiss should have had his license revoked many, many years ago.

In the straw weight world
Title fight Daniel Reyes vs Edgar Cardenas his incompetence was horrific. Allowed Cardenas to take a horrific beating and let him continue to take punches when he could barely stand.

There are other examples which I can’t remember right now. During the fight former world champion Raul Marquez during commentary was yelling at him to stop the fight.

In the sky studio Barry McGuigan & Jim Watt were visibly upset and both adamantly said he should never be allowed to referee again. Years back he was know for Letting fights go on too long. Hence the name Jack “The Butcher” Reiss.

Some people (Wilders camp) probably wanted it waved off last week in the 12th, Reiss did exactly the right thing letting him continue (he was generous too him but still), I believe he told both camps prior that he would give both men the chance of a full count. Top reffing.

Reiss us generally a good ref. But you can't be giving fighters 22 seconds to recover from being starched. Fury gets up at 10, about 5 seconds are needed to assess if he's ok, at the most. If it was the other way around there would be uproar on here

The good thing about Reiss is that the fighters know who the boss is when he's reffing. He has a certain air of authority. You get the feeling that the fighters know they can't get away with anything

He reffed the fight perfect imo. His handling of the knockdown was spot on. He explains why he gets Tyson to move in a different direction and not straight at him.

It's a shame that the one judge was so off with his score.

If he had stopped it, which he had ample authority and evidence to do, this thread would be like ten coyotes howling at the full moon.

Thank goodness he did not.

I don’t dispute he did a good job in the Fury-Wilder fight.

But I just find it a little difficult to call him a “top man” when he has let fights go on far too long in the past and really put fighters safety at risk.

that whole 'walk over there and then back' thing is increasingly common in the states these day and it defo takes more time then the old 'just stumble forward and give me your gloves ' thing. im not sure it was really reiss taking too long as opposed to it being part of the policy itself

lol there was certanly an uproar when wilder got 20 seconds extra between rounds vs ortiz  i heard thats now a policy in some places for the doctors check to come after the initial 60 second break.

basically, it seems like in the us there have been some moves toward measures that are more safety oriented and give extra recovery time for fighters in trouble. in the moment itself it can seem like poor officiating or bias, but these things are being implemented system wide within certain areas

You don't notice a good ref as they say in football

Can't remember Reiss during that fight (although late and intoxicated)

Under normal circumstances , he would be blasted for allowing that , it appeared like Tyson was unconsious for a few seconds , If he would of got knocked down again , that ref would of been crucified , if he waived it off , people would of said thats fine , was it good refereeing , or lucky Tyson did'nt get hurt ,

You lot decide , i'm not sure

He wasn’t unconious. He was on the floor with his eyes open.. looking at the ref. He was probably waiting and didn’t want to get up too quick.

Also, we know what happens when boxers get up to quick.

I think the fall seemed worse than it was because Tyson is a huge unit.
