Callum Smith take the win in my opinion, due to the height and reach (08”!) advantages. Golovkin struggles to land big punches on Smith, and he gets caught with a good right, which ends the fight in the mid rounds.

Chances are if this were to ever happen Golovkin would just have made the full on jump to 168 pounds. I think he's gonna continue on as a Middleweight for now, but I think a fight between him and Callum would be real interesting.

i voted Golovkin, to be honest i do not rate current 168 division fighters too high.

He is, no doubt, 6;3 is pretty tall for a SM, but I like GGG. I said the comp was harsh, but in pure skills, it's true. AT this point though, GGG's age may be a factor.

When was that though? I'm picking GGG over Smith, but I have my doubts.

Great fight, tough to call.
2 years ago GGG, now I feel Smith would be a bit too young, too fresh and with a BIG size advantage.
He has a big size advantage @ SMW (Groves looked small ?) and GGG is a small MW.
Smith can be a stiff plodder at times. If I was to pick a MW to beat him it would be Danny Jacobs - smooth mover.
(Or Canelo on points of course

Sparring is meaningless.. Smith took groves out in 7, so bad example anyway. I'd like to see this fight.

Interesting fight. The tough kickboxer nicky Hol took Smith to 12. Smith is a lhw and would have a lot of confidence after groves. Does he have the savvy to handle the golovkin pressure.

Four/Five years ago was a prime GGG.

Two or three years ago I'd have gone GGG on smart pressure but I think GGG has got progressively easier to hit as his feet and reflexes aren't what they were..
Smith is a big hitter, still improving and absolutely massive. I honestly think he'd win a bruising encounter with a late stoppage and after we'd all recognise GGG as being past his prime.

165 lbs would be hard for Smith to make, but at 168lbs I'd expect Smith to win a very tough and entertaining fight.
There are plenty of good fights for GGG at smw.

What makes you suggest that Carl Froch refused to face James DeGale?
I'm not sure it's even accurate to suggest that Froch "refused" to face GGG either, since the man from Nottingham was a retired fighter when the discussions took place and the terms of the bout weren't agreed (i.e. the weight). The Brit was the A-side and the B-side didn't agree to the terms.
People aren't trying to rewrite history, surely? Come one lads, let's see your proof.

If a bout ever happened between Smith and GGG, the Kazakh would rightly be ridiculed for proposing a 165lbs catchweight, based on his own refusal to face smaller men at catchweights, coupled with his own criticism of other fighters that enagage in bouts that aren't competed at the standard weights.

I'm not accusing Froch of avoiding anyone, I was just using Degale as an example of a realistic fight that didn't happen due to his reyirement, as appose to the GGG fight that was never really on the cards.
My point was more that he didn't refuse to fight GGG because he was scared (which the poster had tried to imply), but that he simply retired and there were other far more realistic candidates who also missed out on fighting him.
