Oh no, I changed my mind!
I don't think that old saying is meant to apply to a situation like this. I think it's meant to be like if somebody is cursing you out or giving you all kinds of nonsense, it'd be the wiser thing to just walk away from the prick than to sink to his level, and take a swing at him. Easier said than done sometimes certainly.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 01:22 This was posted before, maybe even by me. How do they say, "discretion is the better part of valor"....in other words, when the going gets tough....run away!
He'll probably never get booked again. So I don't know if it was guts or just idiocy. He should've worked out the pay issue before he walked out to the ring.Thomastearns wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 11:18 Harper later claimed it was a protest over low pay. Unfortunately for him by walking out he didn't get paid at all. Harper later claimed it was a protest over low pay. Unfortunately for him by walking out he didn't get paid at all.
Some boxers may have defensive un-'fan friendly' styles, but you can never accuse them of cowardice. I remember an ex-amateur telling me how he came to lose some of his teeth by continually getting back up whilst taking a pasting. In hindsight, he joked that it would have been better to have stayed down, but at the time he didn't know any better!
What Curtis Harper did took a lot of guts. It would have been much easier for him to go ahead and go down first decent shot.

Most people don't know in advance when their teeth are going to get knocked out.Thomastearns wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 11:18Some boxers may have defensive un-'fan friendly' styles, but you can never accuse them of cowardice.
