Cruz Carbajal (WBO 118 champ), Hugo Soto (WBA 112 champ) and Alexander Mahmutov (EBU 112 champ) were pretty good and most likely rated fighters.

Talking of thai boxers, i saw an old fight of Khaosai Galaxy the other day.

now that was a Thai fighter . built like a brick sh*thouse, not the prettiest style but just walked down anyone put in front of him.
Don't know how he managed to get down to the Super Fly weight limit, but an excellent champion.

Yes, I think he made 19 defences before retiring unbeaten. But I don't think he would have beaten rival champion at the weight, Gilberto Roman. Roman was a super-flyweight master.

True, should've said never actualy fought for a real world title.

And yes Galaxy was an awesome fighter. His brother wasn't too bad either. Strangest knockout I've ever seen, when he lost his title by KO1.

That guy who kayoed the bantamweight Galaxy was an unheralded Venezualan - so unheralded his name escapes me now. But I've got a tape of him chinning Wilfredo Vazquez in a round in 1990. Vazquez went down and out from a beautiful short right on the chin. This was a peak Vazquez, not the pale shadow Naz fought.

Wasn't Galaxy trained by a guy from Liverpool? i know some Thai boxers were. i think his name was Richardson.

Is he still out there training them

Charles Atkinson. Not sure if he's still doing it.

A young Luisito Espinosa was the guy who chinned Galaxy in a round.

thanks for that, i remember reading an interview with him, he said that most Thai boxers and promoters are obsessed with wieght loss. that most Thai boxers are fighting at least a couple of weight divisions below what they should be, and this leads to them having short careers

It's the same with Korean fighters too apparently, all of them believe that you have to really starve fighters of water to make them tough, and that they should be as light as possible.

Funnily enough I watched Khaiosai Galaxy last night, terrible fighter to watch, no finesse at all, wide open stance, very little defence, but as said earlier, he would just walk in and eventually find a shot.
