To all you film fans

Sherlock came up with the idea of creating a database/listing of what film footage was available for fights from 1900-1930. So what we are jointly going to do is set this thing in motion and see what sort of feedback we get .

The way in which we propose to list the information is as follows;

Smith v Jones ……..4 th July 1900

Known footage quality (is the best known footage good, fair, or bad{if we know})

Availability- is it very rare to find or is it easy to find a copy (for fight fans) and is the fight complete all rounds there).

We don't know if we need the location or venue yet, and will see how it looks first before adding that.

Also, we will add fights that are known to be filmed but no copies are known to exist. We will but put an * after it and put a key under the paragraph stating these fights were taped but no copies are known to exist.

We will add a thank after the paragraph to the users who helped give us info, saying something like-We are grateful to these users.....for there contribution to this list

So having said all that the thing we need is the information. Please send as much information as you can. When we have a reasonable amount we can then see what changes we could make. All comments etc are welcome

Sounds like a great idea, I hope it takes off. http://www.britishpathe.com/ and http://www.itnarchive.com/ are worth a look for old fight footage.

Does anyone know of any fight footage that exists of 20s bantamweight Teddy Baldock? http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=009902

I know at least some footage exists of his 1931 bout with Panama Al Brown, by which time however he was a shot fighter. I'd love to get hold of some from when he was at his peak. I've heard through word-of-mouth that his 1929 fight with Alf Kid Pattenden was filmed. Can anyone confirm this? Apparently this contest was an absolute classic.

Cheers,

Alex.

thanks

Thanks for the support Alex.

I am looking at both the sites you mentioned and they will be featured in the listing. At the moment it is a case of waiting to see if there is sufficient interest to warrent the time it will take to input and maintain the topic.

This sounds like a good idea. I hope some time in the future somebody will collect some of the old films together and make them available in a format people can use ie DVDs I suppose it would come down to if the demand would justify the time and cost.

i think some people are doing this but whether or not any firms are doing this on a comercial basis i don't know. From what i gather there are some considerable advantages to with regard to doing this in terms of cleaning up the footage.
How you link a video machine to a PC is not something I am familiar with and would be obliged for some advice in that regard.

if in time this idea of the database takes of then it could also serve as a means by which people could sell/swop tapes/dvd's. The idea has been mentioned in the past.

we shall just have to wait and see how things go

as you will be aware the server crashed so replies after 10 Nov are lost.

The update I can give is that details will be posted in Jan, as I will have had the info in and available by that date - bar any more disasters.

if I could ask people to re post the information lost then we can start again

how I love technology!!!!
