by Ruthless-RKO
Middleweight world titlist Demetrius Andrade (26-0, 16 KOs), 30, of Providence, Rhode Island, will make his first defense against Artur Akavov (19-2, 8 KOs), 33, of Russia, on Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn’s Jan. 18 card (DAZN) at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, multiple sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN on Friday.
The deal, according to the sources, has been agreed to and was being put to paper with the fight likely to be announced Saturday.
Andrade won a vacant belt by shutout decision over Walter Kautondokwa on Oct. 20. Akavov has won three fights in a row since losing a world title fight by competitive decision to Billy Joe Saunders in December 2016.

No Sulecki?

I have the feeling that Andrade would coddle his strap and fight soft opposition.

despite the fact that Sulecki agreed on all terms and was already preparing for this fight for 2 weeks or so they choosed to match up Andrade vs like you say soft opposition in Akavov

I don't think much of Akavov-Saunders bout's competetiveness, cause BJS was in terrible shape there. Andrade will probably win pretty clearly. Hopefully this will revive Andrade-Saunders talk and they'll finally meet.

Andrade should at least fight 3 times in 2019.
January. May/June and November.
Why not. DAZN should have plenty of dates.
Good to see Andrade active again.

Because he gave Jacobs a good fight?

I didn't think it was a good fight, but I guess that's it. I thought akavov beat Saunders.

Jacobs-Sulecki was about as close as Jacobs-Derevyanchenko, Sulecki won at least 5 rounds. Akavov never defeated someone decent, to be fair Saunders is the only one of his opponents that i have ever heard about (except of Skrzypczynski but i heard about him only because he's Polish). Sulecki defeated Proksa (he won every round, broked Proksa's chin and ended his career, of course it was already past prime Proksa but he was only 30 in this fight), totally dominated and knocked out Centeno and won vs Culcay.
And what else makes Sulecki better than Akavov? He's just a very good fighter, he belongs to the top of the MW division, i'd favour Sulecki over Andrade, i don't think that Charlo would be a big favourite against him. Sulecki has a champion's mentality and commitment.

Both fighters (Sulecki and Akavov) best performances were losses. I have no use for this fight. Andrade would KO either one. Maybe I give Sulecki the benefit of the doubt over Akavov.

Sulecki vs Jacobs could go either way, imo 114-113 Jacobs was the most accurate score. what makes you think that Andrade would KO Sulecki? do you think that Andrade would beat Jacobs? Andrade last KO win was in 2016... he couldn't KO Kautondokwa or Culcay (who lost to Sulecki) but for some reason you think it's obvious that Andrade would knock out Sulecki.
Sulecki was a B side vs Proksa, he knocked him out, B side vs Centeno, he knocked him out, most of people thought that Culcay will defeat him, Sulecki won, before the Jacobs fight some people called him an ''unknown eurobum'', he turned out to be competetive

Miller on this card right? IFL had an interview where he said he was headlining. Linares vs Cano on this as well I believe. Anybody know what Matchroom prospects will be on this?

Miller hasn’t even got an opponent yet. Good he’s keeping busy though.

It’s true. At least he’s active. Although short notice means worse opponents. Doesn’t it?

I hate to go on hating, but a guy with his 'bravado' should be doing more than keeping busy. 2 weeks out and TBA is still opponent. It will be another shvtbag for him to pulverize.

im pretty sure suleckis better then akavov, akakov barely won 2 of his fights after bjs and they were vs crap opposition. pretty sure the bjs fight was down to bjs being in dreadful shape which ppl knew ahead of time bjs was in with the pictures floating around. i dont think jacobs had anything like that impacting him when sulecki took 5 rounds off him and even hugo centeno and proksa are way better then anyone akakovs beat and certanly the last 2 guys who he barely beat
this whole card is boring

There are only a small handful of heavyweights that are any good and Miller is one of them. I'm not sure what your problem is with him. Hearn is the one who is dropping the ball with Big Baby.
