Jamie Munguia has joined Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN.

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya announced early Sunday morning that Mexico’s Munguia has entered a co-promotional agreement between his company and Zanfer Promotions. Zanfer has worked with the 22-year-old Munguia throughout his five-year pro career.

Munguia will make his Golden Boy/DAZN debut January 26 at Toyota Center in Houston. He’ll headline a card that night against Japan’s Takeshi Inoue, who’ll challenge Munguia for his WBO junior middleweight title.

The 29-year-old Inoue (13-0-1, 7 KOs), while unbeaten, is untested against top opposition.

“We’re happy to announce that we signed a multi-fight deal with Munguia and Zanfer Promotions,” De La Hoya said during the Canelo Alvarez-Rocky Fielding post-fight press conference at Madison Square Garden. “So we wanna thank our partners, Zanfer Promotions.”

For Munguia (31-0, 26 KOs), this Golden Boy/DAZN deal helps keep him in position to land a shot at Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KOs), who knocked out England’s Fielding (27-2, 15 KOs) in the third round Saturday night. The Tijuana native would have to move up from 154 pounds to 160 to secure that high-profile opportunity, but he is more than willing to do that.

“Too early now,” De La Hoya said regarding Munguia possibly boxing Alvarez. “He’s obviously fighting at 154. As you see, Canelo’s fighting at 160 or 168. But yes, you’re right, Munguia is a monster.”

I knew it was only a matter of time they signed him. Co-promotion but he’s got a platform.

GBP will probably have him headline 4 shows next years Canelo might headline 3.. thats 7 shows of the 12 annual shows sorted.

Munguia holds a world title but they seem to be taking him like a prospect.

Zanfer will still co-promote him. Kinda like Tevin Farmer. Still co-promoted by DiBella but by signing with Hearn, he can fight on DAZN.

I know he is young, but when you have a world title, you must be prepared to fight against more dangerous guys than this. At least Julian Williams and Michel Soro. If he can beat them, lets fight against Hurd or Charlo.

inoue seems like one of the weakest title challengers ive seen in a while. cook was crap too.

i get that hes really young and they want to get him active though. as long as hes getting some legit opponents each year i guess its fine. smith was a decent challenger. showed there hes way beyond fighting patsies but i guess they want him out there a lot

We will learn how good his chin is though

No no relation

RE Julian Williams, he was actually supposed to fight Inoue in an IBF eliminator, but the bout seemed to never get made... Was rumoured for August, September, October and November.

Social media is abuzz with the report of this bout. Considered a superfight. Apparently many aren't aware that weight divisions exist.

I don't have the heart to tell them that Takeshi and Naoya are different fighters.

Most casuals only know that "There's a Japanese guy they call 'The Monster' named Inoue" they've probably never seen the guy fight.

Never seen or heard of this guy. Only one on his resume I even somewhat know is Nagata. That's a pretty tough opponent as a starter, but they both had zero professional fights at the time.

Only know Nagata from his war with Naito a few months back.

Any of you guys see Franco/Fernandez fight?
They are having a rematch on the undercard. Last time Fernandez was served up to unbeaten Franco, and it turned into a rather entertaining fight. Fernandez got up off the canvas in the first round to eventually KO Franco in the 9th.
The scorecards were typical Mouldy Boy fair, so it was great for Fernandez to bypass them.
Rematch should be interesting.

It's a showcase at best. A beatdown at worst.
I'm wondering how long our patience with Munguia will last.
For now, he's young, he's still developing holds. I don't know how much longer that will be the case

They should have matched him up against Teixeira instead he just beat Gallimore.

Damn, he's on a great win spree since that loss. Gallimore and Hernandez are very good wins. Never thought Teixeira would amount to anything, but he seems to be doing really well. I think Teixeira/Williams should happen asap. Winner gets Munguia.
