why do professional fighters let themselves get so fat when they retire after having a great career ??

They’re only human. They’re not allowed a beer or a pie for years. Then they are allowed those things. I can see it.

It happens to a lot of athletes. One reason is that during their careers they eat tons of calories, and once they retire and stop working out and playing, they don't cut it back enough and balloon up.

This is about it in a nutshell. On top of the calorie intake, there's now more ice cream and beer too rather than vegetables.

And I think the intensity of training drops significantly too. Sure, most will still hit the gym, but it's likely only once a day rather than two-three, as an example.
