Great point OTO. I had posted the same point on another thread. I can't think of one. Not one off hand.

Nothing close to recent.

I can't see Whyte being competitive but he has earned a shot.
Look at the long line of AJ's and Wilders opponents, most have been pretty weak and done nothing to earn a shot.

lucas matthysse had done a lot before his shot at a full world title

destroyed a 31-1 peterson who was coming off wins over khan and holt, and had a good run of stoppages vs olusgun, dallas, and soto. and a lot of people, perhaps most people, also had him beating alexander and judah.

Muhammad Ali after losing to Frazier and leading up to Foreman fight.
Norton 2x's
Frazier
Lubbers
Joe Bugner
Bob Foster
Floyd Patterson
Alvin Lewis
Jerry Quarry
George Chuvalo
Mac Foster
Blin
Buster Mathis
Jimmy Ellis

Am I being ridiculous?

eleider alvarez had beaten pascal, bute, chilemba, edison miranda, and a few guys who were unbeaten sort of fringe prospects at the time like ryno liebenberg and prieto. probably one of the stronger recent resumes before a shot

alvarez of course had to wait 3 years after becoming mandatory to get his shot, and even then it was at a different belt

Look at what aj and wilder did to get a shot. Wilder did nothing, Josh beat whyte. Another example of his willingness. He's probably my favorite heavyweight just for that. The division misses nontitle tear ups more than anything to do with belts.

Good shout, he did continually accept step aside money though.

Yes his situation and time frame regarding his mandatory with Stevenson was deplorable.
Good example.

Raymundo Beltran came to my mind. After losing to Crawford, he made his way to becoming a title contender by beating tough guys along the way. Defeated the likes of Ao, Menard, and Maicelo before winning the title against Vasquez. Also, he and his family was almost kicked out of USA. He needs to win a title for them to be able to stay in USA. That's one tough task both mental and physical.

Erislandy Lara is also worth mentioning. Defected from Cuba, rob against PWill. Then fights tough fighters like Angulo, Hearns Jr and Trout before getting a crack against Canelo.

You can also include Tevin Farmer. Several tough fights for the likes of him that doesn't have one punch power.

It’s tougher for HW’s.. there’s never always 4 separate champions at one point for a long time. There’s only 2 champions.

Had there been 4 different champions. No doubt Whyte would have been challenging for one of them by now.

Frankie Gavin maybe?
Hearn seems to have created in-house opposition for Joshua

Sorry am i missing something? He's beaten 2 top 10 guys and a 38 year old Browne... Povetkin certainly did more for his shot, Pulev too imo

beating two top ten guys is actually a big deal these days without getting a shot, most challengers really dont have more then fringe contender wins, like the type whyte has over helenius and browne in addition to the parker and chisora wins

But surely when you’ve already been ktfo by ‘the guy’ at the weight, albeit just before he won the title, you’ll naturally have to jump through more hoops to get back near the top?

ya i see what you mean, but i think whtyes done enough to justifiy another shot. granted i would be more interested in aj vs someone new like miller

id rather see whyte get his shot vs wilder and then aj vs miller, if we arnt going to get an aj/wilder/fury matchup next
