I'm not convinced on Hunter, and after number 8 it gets tight. Huck was a coin toss.

Just pick a few rankings and get an average..

BoxRec
The Ring
Transnational
PBO (Thank me later, Lennox)
ESPN (Didn't want to include Fat Dan, but an odd # helped break Wilder/Fury tiebreaker)

Code: Select all

            BR TR PBO TN ESPN
 1 Joshua 1 1 1 1 1 1
 2 Wilder 2 3 2 3 2 2.4
 3 Fury 3 2 3 2 3 2.6
 4 Whyte 5 4 5 4 4 4.4
 5 Povetkin 4 6 4 6 6 5.2

It is quite boring to see that kind of agreement between 5 major lists... seemingly doesn't leave much room for argument so yes, I like this method. :TU: It is kind of depressing to build the list yourself, you realize how poor the HW scene is.

Yes, outside top 6-7-and maybe even 8 it gets awfully murky...and really a drop off after 1-2-3.

Yeah, but if we just take each of our rankings; apply actual rank number for each figher; total up across all our rankings; and take the avg, voila! We have our own average ranking.

some people would have Hrgović, Jennings and Hunter in their top 15, others would have Kuzmin, Kabayel and Hughie, that is why this method is less effective than the point method, you can't make average when one fighter was voted 5 times and other 8 and other 20 times

Sure we can, it's more consensus. Unless you want it the other way, then more power to you.

look
for example:
Jennings' votes: 13 15 15 11 11 - - - 12 15 15 15 14 15
Hughie's votes: 10 - - - - - - 12 10 10 - -11 13
Jennings' average: 14.6
Hughie average: 11

but 11 people voted on Jennings and only 6 voted for Hughie. that is why this method doesn't works in this case

some people would have Hrgović, Jennings and Hunter in their top 15, others would have Kuzmin, Kabayel and Hughie, that is why this method is less effective than the point method, you can't make average when one fighter was voted 5 times and other 8 and other 20 times

Same can happen with the original scoring you showed, no? :maybe:

of course not. in my system Jennings would have 135 points, Hughie would have 90 points
