Michael Hunter vs Carlos Takam In March

"I'm hoping March," Hunter told Sky Sports. "I think it's going to be in Madison Square Garden. I'm pretty sure I'll be working with Eddie. "Still in the works, they haven't really thrown any names at me." Following the Ustinov win, Hunter had been offered a fight against Carlos Takam, and he requested more time to prepare for a former world title challenger, who instead halted Senad Gashi at The O2 in December. The Californian still wants to face a fellow contender as he intends to work his way into title contention.

"I would like to fight somebody like that [Takam]," said Hunter. "Maybe even a showcase fight, one of the two, somebody with a name. "I'm not really sure exactly, but I just want a fight where it's going to look very pleasing on my record. "I plan to try and get in the top five this year. That's kind of the plan here, is to creep in the top 10, and maybe finish real strong at the end of the year."

Maybe the HW division will be an active one for 2019?

Takam is a tough fella, but Hunter is too and he's a fresher developing boxer. Gotta pick Hunter, he's on the way to the division's top.

Takam will be a good test for him. A test that he will most likely pass.

Yeah, I figure if he can get a Takam fight and win, he'll be knocking on the door of top 10. The division is weak past number 5/6 so it can happen. He's looked good, and I wasn't really into Hunter until recently, but I was wrong. He can box. :box:

Before the Chisora fight i had Takam in my top 10 so yeah, if Hunter beats him i'll rank him 10-13 depending of how he will defeat the tough Cameroonian. Hunter + Usyk and Gassiev (and maybe Dorticos) are CWs that can get to the top 10 (or higher) at HW.

Wouldn't mind Hunter v Andy Ruiz Jr, could be a fun fight to watch depending on which Ruiz turned up (surprised to see Ruiz is still yet to turn 30, thought he was older than that to be honest).

Yeah I know, would like to see it again in the pros mind. Hunter has done a good job thus far since stepping up to HW, entertaining style too.

Hunter looks pretty good now. Ruiz never impressed me. Let Ruiz fight Arreola for the "Stay Puffed Marshmellow Man Belt."

Hunter Takam is a nice match on every level IMO. Stylewise I think they mesh really nicely and it's at a nice intersection of their respective career paths too.

I'll be rooting for Hunter in this one if it happens. Not sure what MSG card he's referring to. Hunter would be a bad ass back at Cruiserweight.

Very, very good match. I knew Hunter was a lot better than the Usyk fight indicated. He's a seasoned amateur, and he's a terrific boxer. Shows you just how well Usyk's resume translates to HW. I would argue that Briedis, prior to Usyk loss, could move up and stop Whyte.

Arreola is shot, Kownacki is a better contender for that, him vs Ruiz will be fun to watch.

Ruiz has Hunter pencilled in for his fight after next ... August 2022 :D

I like Takam as an opponent. Hunter should win but Takam is another live one :TU:

Yeah it says a lot for Usyk that he handled Hunter so efficiently. Hunter is a good boxer as you say.

I'm sorry how does this translate to Usyk as a heavyweight? Hunter only beat a 42 year old Ustinov who has accomplished fiddly squat at the top level

It’s worth noting Hunter got absolutely robbed ( apparently ) in the amateurs when in England fighting none other than Tyson Fury himself.

He’s a smartish fighter who’ll cause problems for a lot of today’s heavyweights.

you have to admire the Hunter matchmaking so far.

there are some interesting prospects atm

Hunter
darmani rock
Jermaine franklin
efe ajagba

and also Frank sanches Faure will blast away the immediate opposition until he's moved up.

Trevor bryan is moving so slowly its starting to look dubious whether he's any good really

Good one!!

Like too many HWs, Ruiz has always put too little emphasis on conditioning and will not go anywhere unless he gets in shape and stays in shape.

Hunter, on the other hand, can definitely go places as a HW if he doesnt get too far over the 200 pounds that he consistently made as a cruiser. He looked good vs Ustinov when he weighed 213.

Yeah, I wasn't the biggest fan and then I watched him against Ustinov and found my self rather impressed. He really has good technical skills and knows what he's doing in the ring. Can really be a "gadfly" to some top HW's.

He pretty much took out Ilunga who was a touted prospect at one point. I think higher of that win, but Ustinov is a very good win for the division. It's not like the division's top guys have fought everyone. Luis Ortiz is thought of as some monster when his best win was against Jennings ages ago, and Jennings' best win is against Mike Perez who was fat, depressed, and arguably coming off a loss to Takam. You can poke holes and hate on everyone in the division.
